Part LI
He propped himself up on one
elbow and smiled as he watched her sleep. She shifted closer to him, one hand
resting protectively on her stomach. His fingers lightly trailed down her arm,
his hand coming to rest on hers. He marveled at the
thought of a living being growing inside of her. A living being that they had
created together.
His smile widened as the
daydreams began pouring forth. His son capturing bugs in the front yard and
excitedly showing them to his parents. His daughter giggling uncontrollably as
her father held her high in the air above him. He sighed contentedly and
briefly wondered if it was a boy or a girl. He grinned, knowing it didn’t
really matter. As long as he/she were healthy and happy.
His grin faded slightly as
he wondered what kind of father he would be. He hoped that he would be much
better at this than his own father. His heart ached at the thought of his child
wondering if his father even loved him. He shook his head slowly. No, his child
would never have to wonder. He’d make sure of that. After all, he never learned
much from his own father...his mother, however, always showed him unconditional
love. Even when he almost blew the house up. He chuckled lightly at the memory.
His hand gently slid under
hers and softly caressed her belly. He wondered if his father had ever done
this. Rubbing his mother’s stomach as he grew inside. He wondered if his father
had the same reaction that he did when the test came back positive. Laughing,
crying, holding his wife tightly in his arms. He swallowed and closed his eyes.
He made a silent promise to his child that he would be the best father he could
possibly be.
His fingers splayed out
across her stomach.
“What are you doing?”
He jumped slightly as the
sleepy voice startled him. His eyes moved from her stomach to her smiling eyes.
He blushed lightly and grinned. “Just thinking...”
She returned his smile,
moving her hand over his and caressing it gently. “What about?”
He leaned over her and
placed a soft kiss on her lips. “Being a father.”
That one simple statement
brought tears to her eyes.
His hand gently stroked her
cheek as he pressed his lips to hers again. He pulled from her when he felt the
small sob catch in her chest.
“Hey...you okay?”
She smiled brightly through
her tears and nodded. “Yeah...it’s just...”
His head tilted to one side
as he questioned her silently.
“You’re going to be a
wonderful father...you know that, right?”
He grinned as he gently
wiped the tears from her eyes. “I hope.”
Her fingers found their way
to the back of his head as she pulled him down to her. He smiled as their lips
met once again.
She grinned at him as he
leaned back to look at her.
“What?”
She giggled lightly.
“Nothing...you’re just...cute...”
She laughed harder as he
blushed.
“So...Mr. Grissom...I need a
shower.”
He chuckled as he shifted
his body from her and laid his head on the pillow. “Okay.”
She climbed out of the bed
and walked to the bedroom door. Turning back, she grinned. “You coming, or
what?”
He returned her grin and
quickly followed her to the bathroom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They stood beneath the warm
spray of water, her back to him as he tenderly washed her back. His hands slid
around her waist and rested on her stomach. He pulled her against his chest as
he began placing soft kisses on her neck.
His tongue slowly made its
way from her neck, across her collarbone, and back. His teeth gently nipped at
her flesh before gently sucking it into his mouth. Her head fell back against
his shoulder as her hand moved up to caress his face.
She pushed back against his
growing arousal. He relinquished her neck long enough to softly moan her name.
She took the opportunity to turn in his arms. Pressing her body against his,
she wrapped her arms around his neck. Tilting her head up slightly, she allowed
her tongue to glide across his throat and chin. His eyes opened briefly...long
enough to watch her tongue snake out again and move towards his lips.
His body shivered under the
warm water as her tongue entered his mouth. His hand brushed through her wet
hair as he returned her kiss passionately. She took a small step backwards,
pulling him with her, and pressed her back against the shower wall. He broke
the kiss momentarily to look into her eyes.
Smiling, he leaned into her
and bent his head to take her nipple into his mouth. He sighed against her skin
as she groaned...his name echoing within the confines of the shower. Her hand
trailed down his chest, her nail scraping across his nipple. He inhaled sharply
as his hands slid down her back, coming to a rest on her ass and pulling her
tighter against him.
Her long fingers wrapped
around his erection, squeezing gently. He lifted his head and gazed at her. She
smirked sweetly as she watched his eyes cloud over, his tongue slowly licking
his lips. He thrust gently into her hand as he leaned forward and invaded her
mouth once again with his tongue.
The warm water flowing down
his back as he kissed her excited him even more. He was growing rapidly in her
hand. If she kept this up, he wouldn’t last much longer. He pulled from her and
stared at her through lust-soaked eyes. His hand covered hers, halting her
motion. She looked at him, clearly puzzled.
“What’s wrong?”
He cleared his throat
softly. “Nothing...it’s just...I’m...very close...and...”
She smiled and squeezed him
tighter in her hand. His body shuddered as he took a step forward, causing him
to lose his balance.
Startled, his hand grasped
the first thing it could find...the showerhead. With the force of his attempt
to keep himself from falling, there was a loud crack. Sara’s arms wrapped
around him to steady him.
With his balance regained,
he released the showerhead from his grasp. And stared in bewilderment as it
swung downwards, bouncing against the ceramic tiling.
He stood there silently,
speechless, watching the hardware sway lightly back and forth. Her laughter
brought his eyes to hers, which in turn caused her to laugh harder.
He opened his mouth to say
something, but no words formed. His heavy blush brought the tears of hilarity
from her eyes.
“Gil...maybe we...we should
take...this to...bed...”
Slowly his laughter joined
hers, his embarrassment leaving as his laughter grew.
“Yeah...I’ll...uh...I’ll
call the plumber tomorrow.”
He helped her out of the
shower, her laughter ebbing slightly. Her giggles began again as they dried
off.
“Sara...”
“I want to be there...”
“Huh?”
“When you explain to the
plumber how this happened...I want to be there...”
Their laughter echoed in the
bathroom as he picked her up and headed back down the hall to their bedroom.
He tossed her gently onto
the bed, smiling when her giggles abruptly halted. Her eyes darkened as she
reached for him. The bed shifted slightly as he moved onto the mattress beside
her. Her finger trailed down his chest as he leaned over her to kiss her.
His tongue gently prodded at
her lips...they parted instantly, welcoming him. His hand cupped her cheek
briefly as he deepened the kiss. She sighed against him as she felt his hand
slowly glide down her body, coming to a rest on her stomach.
A small gasp escaped her
lips as his mouth followed the path made by his hand. He placed a soft, gentle
kiss on her stomach and smiled.
She grinned at him. “What
are you doing?”
He shrugged his shoulders
lightly. “Kissing the baby.”
At that moment, she had never
felt such love for him. Her passion for him burned, threatening to sear her
body.
She shifted underneath him,
placed her hands on his shoulders and pushed him onto his back. He groaned as
her mouth latched onto his nipple, her tongue teasing it into hardness. He
reached underneath her and gently pinched her nipple as her teeth nibbled on
his.
She glanced up at him and
grinned. She relinquished his nipple and slid off of the bed. His eyes snapped
open in puzzlement.
“Where are you going?”
Her bright eyes twinkled.
“Just to get something...close your eyes, baby.”
He hesitated for a moment
before granting her request. Her smile widened as she stooped down and pulled
the belt from the loops of the pants he had worn earlier that day.
He inhaled sharply as he
felt her move back onto the bed and straddle him. His hands automatically moved
to her hips. She carefully laid the belt on the bed beside of them before
covering his hands with her own.
Gently she pulled his hands
from her body and moved them up above his head to the headboard. His eyes
slowly opened as the grin spread across his face.
“What...are you...doing?”
She reached for the belt and
smiled at him. “Tying you up.” Her voice was calm, the words were spoken in the
soft, matter-of-fact tone that always brought a smile to his face.
She leaned over him,
securing his wrists to the spindles. He took the opportunity to capture her
nipple in his mouth. She gasped and pressed her center
against his abdomen. His teeth gently scraped across her hard nub as he
suckled.
Her back arched into him,
her hands still on his leather-bound wrists, her hips began to grind against
him. He released her nipple to run his tongue across the soft flesh between her
breasts. She slowly pulled from him, her nails lightly scratching his arms as
she brought herself to a sitting position on top of him.
He looked into her eyes and
swallowed. His hands ached to hold her, to touch her. But, she was in control.
His eyes closed as she
leaned down to kiss him. Her tongue invaded his mouth, roaming the orifice she
knew so well. Her mouth began its journey of worshiping his flesh.
He moaned as her mouth moved
over his body, stopping periodically to lick and nip at his skin. He could feel
the wetness between her legs as she shifted down his body. He jerked against
the restraints involuntarily as he felt her lips brush against his erection.
She placed a soft kiss on the head before running her tongue lightly across his
inner thighs. His muscles twitched under her touch.
Their eyes met as her tongue
slowly slid up the length of his shaft before teasingly flicking the head. His
hips bucked lightly under her. His eyes closed as she pulled him into her
mouth. She moved her mouth down the shaft, her tongue caressing the underside.
He groaned as he felt the head bump against the back of her throat.
Her movements were slow,
agonizingly slow. His hips gently thrust against her. She increased her
pressure, but not her speed. He whimpered lightly as she hummed softly against
him. She smiled as she pulled off of him and moved back up his body and
straddled him.
He slid easily inside of
her. Once again, he pulled against the belt holding his hands captive. She
moved slowly, building him up. Her hands rested lightly on his chest. She
leaned down and traced his lips with her tongue before moving to his neck.
He thrust into her, urging
her. But, she maintained her slow pace. Her mouth moved to his ear, softly
whispering, “I love you”, before nibbling on his earlobe. He thrust harder
inside of her, silently begging her. She was having none of it. She knew what
she was doing.
She grinned as her hand
moved up his arm and touched the leather. He pushed into her again.
“God...Sara...”
In one quick motion, he was
freed from his restraints.
Her teeth grasped at the
flesh covering his collarbone as his hands held her hips, pushing and pulling
her rapidly against him. His thrusts became harder and deeper, her moans became
louder in his ears.
He felt her muscles contract
around him as she screamed his name. He kept pounding into her throughout her
orgasm, faster and harder. Her body quivered as she came again. He groaned her
name as he plunged one more time deep inside of her and released his seed.
Her spent body collapsed
against him as he moved his arms around her. He gently rolled onto his side,
his body shuddering as he slipped out of her. He held her tightly in his arms,
smiling as he felt her body tremble.
Their rapid breathing slowly
calmed. She nestled her head against his chest.
“Do we have to go to work
tonight?”
He grinned at the childish
tone in her voice. “I’m afraid so...”
She sighed heavily and
shifted her head. She placed a gentle kiss on his chest and licked his salty
skin.
He kissed the top of her
head as a sigh escaped his own lips. “Come on...”
“Where are we going?” She
lifted her head to look into his eyes.
“Well...I don’t know about
you, but I need a shower before we go to work.”
She snorted lightly before
the giggles kicked in again. “A shower? I don’t think so, babe...a bath
maybe...”
He tickled her ribs lightly
as he joined in with her laughter. “Yeah...remind me to call the plumber in the
morning...”
Her giggles gave way to
full-blown laughter. “How much will you pay me not to say anything at work?”
His eyes narrowed. “Sara...”
She pulled from his arms and
jumped out of bed. “How much?”
Her smile was
contagious. “Sara...don’t...”
She laughed as she ran from
the bedroom, down the hall to the bathroom.
He shook his head slowly and
chuckled as he followed her.
He sat in the breakroom with a cup of coffee, quietly working the puzzle
lying on the table in front of him. His left thumb rotated the ring around his
finger absently as he sifted through the possible answers forming in his mind.
She leaned against the
doorframe and watched him with a smile on her face. She gently ran her hand
across her stomach, briefly wondering if their child would one day be found
with a crossword puzzle in his hand and that “Grissom-look” on his face. She
giggled lightly as the mental image formed.
Hearing the familiar giggle,
he looked up and smiled. “What?”
Her eyes twinkled as she grinned
at him. “Nothing...just thinking...”
His eyes remained transfixed
on her as she walked into the room and took the seat next to him. She rested
her head against his shoulder and looked down at the puzzle in front of him.
“Aliquatenus...”
His concentration broken, he
looked at her. “What?”
“54-down...aliquatenus...”
His eyes searched the page
in front of him, quickly finding the clue. “Latin for ‘to a certain extent’..”
He nodded as his pen quickly
filled in the answer. “Since when do you know Latin?”
She lifted her head and
smiled. “I would say ‘since I met you’...” She laughed lightly as he blushed.
“But, you know that would be a lie. I’m learning...because it interests you.”
He grinned as the he laid
the pen on the table and leaned over to place a soft kiss on her lips...which
she quickly deepened.
The silence around them was
broken by a voice carrying a sarcastic tone. “Oh damn...here we go again..”
They pulled from each other
and looked towards the door to find Catherine grinning like the Cheshire cat.
“You know...why don’t you just go home? Shift’s over, you can get a quick
shower...”
Grissom’s head quickly
turned towards Sara with the mention of the word ‘shower’. Her mouth twisted
lightly in an attempt to hold the laughter inside.
“Which reminds me,
Gil...have you called the plumber?”
The flush crept up his neck
slowly. “Uh...yeah...Aaron said he’d be there around noon...to fix...it...”
Catherine was pouring herself
a cup of coffee as she waited for Warrick to get
back. “Plumbing problems?”
Grissom sighed lightly as he
envisioned the turn this conversation could possibly take.
Sara choked back the
laughter threatening to escape her lips. “Just the shower...”
“What’s wrong with it? You know...Warrick is pretty good with pipes, maybe he could help...”
Grissom thought quickly and
said the first thing that popped into his head. “It’s broken...”
Sara somehow successfully
suppressed the maniacal laughter.
“Hey...you ready to go?”
Everyone turned to see Warrick standing in the
doorway. Grissom thought he had never been so happy to see the younger man in
his life.
Catherine smiled and nodded,
the questions of plumbing quickly forgotten.
Grissom exhaled heavily as
Catherine left the room. He turned to Sara, whose laughter had finally worked
its way out. Unable to control it, his laughter joined in with hers. His hand
moved to her stomach and gently rubbed. “You two ready to go home?”
Her laughter abruptly halted
as his question registered itself in her mind. Her hand covered his as she
leaned over and kissed him softly. “Yes we are...”
She grinned at him as he
stood and offered her his hand. She quickly stood beside him, her hand in his
as they walked to the door.
“So...plumber won’t be there
until noon?”
“Yeah...he said it was the
earliest he could get there...”
She gently squeezed his hand
as the smile played at her lips. “Well...guess that means we get to take a bath
when we get home then...”
The coy smile was not lost
on him as he returned one of his own. “Yeah...guess so...”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He walked into the bathroom
to find her leaning over the edge of the tub, apparently checking the
temperature of the water. He watched her silently for a few moments. His eyes
darkened slightly as he imagined her lithe muscles moving underneath her robe.
He took the few steps
required to stand directly behind her. His hands reached out gently grabbed her
hips pulling her slightly back towards him. A small gasp escaped her lips as he
pressed his hips against her.
Both hands grasped the edge
of the tub tightly. She felt his hands roam over her back slowly, hindered by
the soft terry cloth covering her body. She shifted her weight slightly,
allowing herself to remove one hand from the cool ceramic. She quickly loosened
the belt of the robe as his hands gently caressed her thighs.
His hands slowly edged under
the hem of the robe, gliding softly across her skin. As he worked his way up
her thighs, the soft material moved with him, exposing her flesh. She pushed
back against him as his hands slid to her hips. He groaned lowly at the
sensation.
He removed his hands from
her body long enough to shed his own robe, softly smiling at her whimper. His
right hand found her hip and pulled her against him, the fingers of his left
hand made a slow trail across her back. Her hands grasped the edge of the tub
tighter in anticipation.
His left hand moved
teasingly down her back, coming to a rest on her hip. His fingers grasped her
flesh as he eased himself inside of her. She moaned lightly and moved back
against him. His eyes closed as he gently thrust into her. His hand moved up
her back underneath the robe and wrapped around her shoulder.
Her moans grew louder as his
thrusts became more forceful. Her hips moved in time with his. He groaned as he
felt his orgasm building. He slowed his pace in order to wait for her.
His strokes became long and
deliberate. His hands held her tightly, pushing and pulling her body against
his. He could feel her muscles twitch around him. He brushed across that one
special spot slowly...over and over. He could feel her explosion pending.
He halted his motions for a
split second before slamming his hips against her. Her words became jumbled,
nonsensical ramblings interspersed with his name. He felt her juices flowing
freely over him. Her muscles began to contract as he quickened his strokes.
His fingers dug into her
flesh. She screamed his name. Her voice echoed throughout the room. His head
snapped back as her name escaped his lips. With one last hard thrust, he came
inside of her. His semen washing the walls of her gushing tunnel.
He slid out of her as they
both collapsed to the floor, her in his arms. She turned in his arms and kissed
him passionately.
“What...what brought
that...on...”
He grinned and simply
stated, “You.”
She blushed heavily and
giggled. Glancing up at the clock, she sighed. “You know...we really should get
a quick bath.”
He questioned her silently.
“The plumber?”
He chuckled softly.
“Oh...yeah...”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sound of the doorbell
startled them both, as they had dozed off on the couch waiting for the plumber
to arrive.
She yawned deeply. “That
must be Aaron the Plumber...”
He laughed. “Yeah...Aaron
the Plumber...just like Vlad the Impaler...only...different...”
She punched him in the arm
lightly. “Just go answer the door...Vlad...”
He shook his head slowly,
laughing softly. “Vlad...”
He stood and walked to the
door, opening it to find the young man who had come to fix the shower.
Grissom quickly took Aaron
to the bathroom to show him the damage. Sara stood in the doorway and watched
as Grissom explained the situation.
“Damn, Mr. Grissom...the
showerhead’s been jerked clean out of the wall.”
“Uh...yeah...that’s why
you’re here...”
Aaron shook his head. “Well,
I can fix it, of course...it’ll take me a few minutes though, you know...”
“Of course...”
Aaron turned to look at
Grissom. “So, how did this happen anyway?”
Sara stifled a giggle
successfully.
Grissom shifted his weight nervously.
“I..uh...was in the shower and...slipped. Grabbed the
first thing I could...which happened to be the...uh...showerhead.”
Aaron nodded. “Yeah, that
happens. You know, you really should get one of those nice, thick bathmats. You
know, the kind that have the ridges on ‘em...keeps the slipping problem to a
bare minimum. Quite a few really bad accidents have taken place in showers
because of slipping...”
Aaron looked down in the tub
to see a bathmat exactly like he had just described. Grissom had followed his
gaze and felt the heat climbing up the back of his neck.
Aaron looked back up at
Grissom with a sly grin on his face before casting a quick glance at Sara. His
eyes moved back to Grissom and his grin widened.
“Yeah...so...um...let me get
to work on this showerhead...shouldn’t take too long, Mr. Grissom.”
“Uh...thanks...” He quickly
left the young man to work.
Sara barely made it to the
balcony before her laughter overtook her.
Part LIV
Aaron found the couple on
the balcony and smiled. It was obvious to him what had happened to the shower,
and even more obvious that the husband was very embarrassed by the entire
situation. The wife however...she seemed to enjoy her husband’s discomfort over
the matter. His smile widened. They complimented each other well. He liked
seeing a happy couple for a change.
He slowly stepped into the
patio doorway. “Uh...Mr. Grissom?”
Grissom turned his eyes
toward the young man, but never let go of his wife. That made Aaron smile more.
“Yeah...Mr.
Grissom...so...the shower’s all fixed now. Shouldn’t give you any problems,
assuming it’s not jerked out of the wall again.”
Grissom blushed lightly as
Sara’s laughter was finally heard. “Thanks Aaron.”
His arms released Sara as he
turned to walk back inside to search for his wallet. “How much do I owe you?”
Aaron grinned. “Oh...I’ll
just send you a bill, if that’s okay...easier for me to keep track of...”
Grissom returned the young
man’s smile. “Paper trails...”
Aaron laughed as he picked
up his tools and headed to the door. “Have a good day Mr. Grissom.”
Grissom chuckled lightly as
he followed him to the door. “You too Aaron...if we have any more problems,
I’ll be sure to call.”
Aaron’s laughter grew as he
opened the door to let himself out. “Yeah...showers can
be...tricky...sometimes.”
Grissom shook his head
lightly as he closed the door behind the plumber.
He was startled momentarily
when he felt Sara’s arms wrap around him from behind.
“Think he knows what really happened?”
He could feel her laughter
vibrating through his body. He slowly turned around in her arms and pulled her
to him. “Yeah...I kinda think he does...”
He looked down at her and
smiled before leaning in for a kiss.
She pulled him to the sofa
and pulled the blanket over them as she settled against his chest. His arm
wrapped around her as he closed his eyes. She shifted slightly in an effort to
get more comfortable. Her breathing pattern quickly changed. He smiled as he
listened to her sleep...his own sleep finding him quickly as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was awakened by the feel
of her moving from him. His eyes opened quickly and he glanced at the clock.
4:58. Then he heard what had brought Sara from her slumber...the doorbell.
He sat up quickly, smiling
as Sara moved to a sitting position with the blanket over her. He walked to the
door, shivering slightly from the cool bite in the air. Opening the door, he found
Warrick standing there with some files in his hand.
“Hey Warrick.”
He moved out of the doorway to allow him in.
“Hey Griss...sorry,
I don’t normally do this...but...I was wondering if I could run something by
you...”
Grissom ran a hand through
his hair and yawned lightly. “Of course...we were just taking a nap. Almost
time for us to get up anyway.”
He made his way back to the
sofa and back under the blanket beside Sara as Warrick
sank into the chair across from them.
Warrick began spreading the files across the coffee
table, talking out his theory. Grissom listened intently to his thoughts. He
suddenly felt Sara’s hand on his thigh, rubbing gently. He glanced over at her
and caught the mischievous look in her eyes.
His attention was brought back
to Warrick as he heard, “But...what I don’t
understand is this...”
He watched as Warrick laid the photographs across the files. Sara’s hand
ventured further up his thigh. He swallowed, trying his best to keep his
attention on Warrick. He felt himself quickly losing
that battle.
“You see that?” Warrick pointed to a close-up of the injury to the victim.
“Yeah...” The word croaked
out of Grissom’s mouth. He quickly cleared his throat.
“What is that? It doesn’t match anything else we’ve found...”
Warrick’s voice began to drown out as Sara’s fingers
found his zipper and slowly pulled it down. He tried his best to regain
control. He looked up to see Warrick looking at him,
obviously expecting an answer from him.
“What? I’m...sorry...I
didn’t hear that...” He inhaled deeply as he felt her fingers curl around him
and begin to slowly stroke him.
Warrick nodded and turned to where Grissom could read
his lips...and then repeated the question. “Have you ever seen anything quite
like that before?”
Grissom closed his eyes for
a brief moment, resisting the urge to thrust into Sara’s hand. He reached over
with a slightly trembling hand and picked up the photograph.
“Griss?
You okay?”
“Huh? Yeah...just...a slight
headache coming on, I think...”
Sara bit her lip, stopping
the motion of her hand on him.
Warrick nodded. “Maybe you should take something for
it and lie back down. We can talk about this at work...it was just on my mind,
you know?”
“Yeah...maybe you’re right.
My concentration seems to be...a little...off right now.”
Warrick looked at him through eyes of concern. It
wasn’t like Grissom to have concentration difficulties on a case. “Okay..no problem, just get rid of that headache...”
Grissom nodded as he watched
Warrick gather his papers. His breath caught in his
chest as he felt Sara’s hand squeeze him tightly.
His eyes followed Warrick to the door. He briefly heard Warrick
saying goodbye and vaguely remembered acknowledging him before the door closed
behind him.
He quickly turned back to
Sara and pulled the blanket from them. He looked into her eyes and smiled.
“That was not...fair...”
She laughed as she released
him and began to quickly undress. He pulled his own clothes from his body as he
watched her.
“How’s your ‘headache’?” She
smiled as she gently tapped his erection with her finger.
“It’ll be fine in a few
minutes...” He grinned as he pushed her back onto the cushions and knelt
between her legs.
Her legs automatically
wrapped around his waist as he slid easily inside of her. He thrust slowly into
her as his fingers ran through her hair. Her eyes closed as she felt his lips
touch hers. His tongue gently asking for entrance.
She kissed him hungrily as
her hips moved against him. It never failed to amaze her how their rhythm
perfectly matched one another. She could feel him swell inside of her. She knew
he was close.
His strokes became longer
and faster. His hand trailed from her breast, paused briefly on her stomach,
and continued its journey downwards. His fingers flicked across her clitoris
briefly before rubbing against the hardened nub.
Her teeth latched onto his
neck as she groaned against his skin. He felt her contract around him, her
muscles twitching. He quickened his strokes and watched her as her orgasm
washed over her. The sight and the sensations were too much as his eyes closed,
her name escaping his lips.
She held him close to her,
almost unwilling to let him go. She heard him quietly chuckle against her neck.
“What?”
He pushed himself up and
looked down at her. “You know...Warrick should come
by more often...”
She playfully pushed him
away and glanced at the clock. “6:39...we really should get in the shower and
get ready for work.”
“Yeah...shower...um...need
to be careful though..”
She looked back at him,
clearly puzzled. “Why?”
He let his hand rest on her
stomach as he smiled at her. “Because...showers can be...tricky, you know...”
They laughed together as he
stood. She took his hand and allowed herself to be helped up from the couch and
led into the bathroom.
Part LV
They walked through the
front doors of the CSI building and signed in, before heading to the elevator.
Hearing a small laugh, he turned to look at her.
“What’s so funny?”
She shook her head and
smiled. “Aaron would be so proud?”
The confusion shone in his
eyes. “Aaron? Why?”
The elevator door opened and
she walked in, waiting for the doors to close before she answered him.
“Because...we were able to
make it through our shower without further incident.”
He looked at her in
mock-irritation. “Sara...are you ever
going to let me live that down?”
She leaned over and placed a
soft kiss on his cheek. “Of course, I am...”
“Good!”
“Just not anytime soon.”
She poked him in the ribs
and exited the elevator, walking quickly down the hall.
“Hey...”
She turned to look at him
with a smile on her face. “Yeah?”
“Where are you going?”
“Trace...I’ll be there if
you need me.”
He nodded and watched her as
she turned and continued on her way. He smiled to himself as he walked to his
office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He closed the file he was
working on and glanced at the clock. Thirty minutes before the others show
up. He quickly decided to go find Sara.
He found her easily enough.
Leaning over a table, looking at the photographs from the previous night’s
case. He walked up behind her, placing his right arm around her and resting his
hand on her stomach.
“Find anything?”
She sighed heavily and
leaned back into him. “No...nothing...it has
to be here, I’m just missing it.”
He laid his chin on her
shoulder and inhaled deeply, breathing in her scent. “You’re looking too hard,
you know that...”
Her hand covered his on her
belly as his fingers splayed out across her abdomen. “I know...it’s just...”
His head shifted slightly
and he placed a soft kiss on her neck. “I know, it’s driving you crazy.”
His soft chuckle brought a
smile to her face. “Yeah, it is.”
She leaned further back
against him and sighed as his hand gently caressed her stomach. Her voice
dropped to a whisper. “You remember the doctor’s appointment, right?”
“Of course, I do...8:30...Dr.
Herrero’s office.” His left hand gently stroked her
arm. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world, Sara.”
She exhaled the breath she
had been holding. “Good...because...I’m a little nervous.”
He smiled against her skin.
“So am I. Nervous, petrified, elated...so many different emotions are running
through my system right now. But...I know one thing...”
She turned to look at him.
“What’s that?”
He grinned and tenderly
kissed her lips. “You’re going to be a wonderful mother.”
She smiled, her tension
eased slightly.
She looked back down at the
photographs. “Now....where were we?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She stood in the doorway,
watching them. She wasn’t trying to eavesdrop. Even if she were, she wouldn’t
be able to...they were speaking in hushed tones. But, that’s not what caught
her attention.
It was the way he was
standing there. His arm around her waist. His hand across her
stomach...almost...protectively.
It was the way her hand
joined his. Holding his hand to her abdomen. The way she leaned back into him.
The way their hands caressed her belly in unison.
She thought back over the
past few days. Sara’s eating habits...more importantly, the foods that Sara had
been choosing to eat. Nothing too odd, but...unusual for Sara. A slow smile
crept across her face. She leaned against the doorframe and watched them.
She wondered briefly if she
should ask...or...if she should wait until they felt the time was right to let
everyone know.
It was in her nature to ask.
But, then again...Grissom and Sara were both extremely private people.
She sighed heavily in
thought...a little louder than she actually meant to. She smiled as Grissom
glanced towards the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He whispered softly in her
ear. “I love you Sara.”
She smiled and held his hand
tightly against her belly. “I love you too, Gil.”
His ears registered a sound.
A quick glance towards the door revealed the origin of that sound.
He lifted his head from
Sara’s shoulder, but his hand remained where it was. “Hey Catherine...”
Sara turned to look towards
the door and tightened her grip on Grissom’s hand.
Catherine smiled at the
redness forming on their faces.
Slowly, she entered the room
and took a seat on the stool at the corner of the table. Taking a deep breath,
she looked at them and smiled.
Taking a quick glance at
their hands, her smile widened. “So...I guess congratulations are in order...”
Sara’s hand left her
stomach, but Grissom’s never flinched. It stayed there...caressing, protecting
his unborn child. A grin spread across his flushed face.
“Um...yeah...we were going
to wait until we saw the doctor tomorrow before we told everyone.”
Sara nervously ran a hand
through her hair and reached out with her foot to drag a stool over to her.
Grissom automatically grabbed the stool with his left hand and brought it to
her. Catherine smiled at them both as Sara sat down and leaned back against his
chest.
“So...how far along are
you?”
Sara bit her lip momentarily
before answering with a quiet “I’m not sure...”
Catherine nodded in
understanding. “Who’s your doctor?”
“Rebecca Herrero...I’ve
heard she’s good...do you know of her?”
Catherine grinned at the
nervousness in Sara’s answer. “Yes...and she is a wonderful doctor.”
Grissom placed a gentle kiss
on the top of Sara’s head. “See? I told you...everything is going to be fine.”
Catherine looked concerned
for a moment. “Have there been problems or...”
Sara quickly shook her head.
“No...just first-baby jitters...”
Grissom laughed softly. “For
both of us.”
“Well...just my
opinion...but, I happen to think that the two of you are going to be wonderful
parents.”
She laughed as Grissom
blushed deeply and Sara’s smile broadened.
Suddenly something occurred
to Grissom. “Catherine?”
“Yeah?”
“Um...was there something
you needed...or...were you just checking up on us?”
She laughed loudly. “No...I
wasn’t checking up on you...actually, Warrick was
looking for you. He said that he had stopped by your house for some advice, but
that you had a headache...”
Grissom cleared his throat.
“Yeah...it was...pretty intense there for a while...I couldn’t...concentrate on
what he was asking.”
“Feeling better now?”
“Um...yeah...actually I am.
I laid back down for a little while...and...it seems to have eased off quite a
bit.”
“So...”
“So?”
“You think you might be able
to help Warrick out?”
“Oh...yeah...” He leaned
down and placed a quick kiss on Sara’s cheek. “I’ll see you in a bit.”
She grinned up at him and
winked. She sighed heavily as she watched him leave the room.
“So...what time is your
appointment tomorrow?”
“8:30...”
Catherine smiled at her. “I
was a nervous wreck when I found out I was pregnant. But...after the first
doctor’s appointment, it gets better.”
Sara returned her smile.
“Ready to get to work?”
“Yeah...let’s go. The busier
you are, the quicker the time will go by....”
They shared a hearty laugh
as they exited the lab in search of their assignments.
Part LVI
She watched as he gently
rotated his ring around his finger with his thumb while staring at the page in
the magazine. She smiled at his nervousness. He had been staring at the same
page for ten minutes now. Reaching over, she softly placed her hand on his knee.
He gave her a quick glance and a small smile in return before turning back to
the magazine in his hand.
She stood quickly and took
his hand, grinning as she read the question in his eyes. She gently tugged on
his hand, pulling him from the chair. “Come on...they called us.”
“Oh.” His voice was quiet.
He tossed the magazine onto the table and stood beside her. He realized the he
was gripping her hand just a little too tightly and loosened his grasp.
“Sorry...”
“Relax, babe...it’s okay.”
She offered him another wide smile and followed the nurse down the hallway,
leading him on their journey.
He walked slowly, his hand
in hers. They followed the nurse into the small room, and he stood to the side
desperately trying to pay attention to what the woman was saying to Sara.
Frustrated by his mind unable to concentrate on anything other than his
irrational nervousness, he turned to study the posters on the wall.
“Hey...”
He turned towards the soft
voice of his wife, startled slightly to realize that they were alone. He dug
his hands into his pockets and shifted his weight.
“You okay?”
The familiar lop-sided smile
played at his lips. “Yeah, fine...”
She laughed lightly at his
reply. “Liar.”
Giving her a small wink, he
walked across the room to find himself in front of a bulletin board. His eyes
gazed at each picture of each newborn pinned to the board. He sighed heavily
and mumbled something under his breath.
“What?”
He turned to look at her
with the biggest smile she had seen on his face since they had entered the
waiting room. “I said...one day our child’s picture will be here.” He gestured
to the board behind him.
She reached a slightly
trembling hand towards him. “C’mere.”
His smile widened as he
walked to her and took hold of her hand before sitting in the chair beside the
examination table. His fingers laced with hers, they began to talk about
anything to relieve their nerves. The sound of the door opening broke their conversation.
“Mr. and Mrs. Grissom?”
Two heads nodded back at
her, their voices suddenly gone.
She smiled brightly at them.
“I’m Dr. Herrero...what do you say we find out a
little more about your baby?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
With the initial examination
out of the way, she moved the ultrasound closer to the table. He inhaled deeply
as he watched her spread the gel over Sara’s abdomen. She jumped slightly and
he quickly turned his attention to her.
“Sorry...” The sheepish look
on her face made him grin.
Dr. Herrero
smiled at them. “A little cold, I know. Sorry about that...it’ll warm up in a
second.”
Grissom pulled his eyes from
his wife to the screen as the doctor began to scan her belly. His mouth dropped
open as she began pointing out various parts of the being they had created
together. The head...the little nubs that would soon form into his or her feet
and hands...
A tear fell gently down
Sara’s cheek as she tightened her hold on his hand. “Gil...look...”
He leaned down and placed a
soft kiss on her forehead before gazing back at the screen.
“Okay...you are at
approximately nine weeks right now.”
“What??” They asked in unison.
Dr. Herrero
laughed gently. “Nine weeks...I take it that you weren’t expecting to be that
far along?”
Sara’s voice cracked
slightly. “No...I mean...I’ve had a period during that time. I...we...just
assumed...”
“That can happen. Especially
if you were on the pill for an extended length of time prior to conception.”
She printed the picture of
their baby and handed it to Sara. Gil leaned over her and kissed her cheek as
they gazed at the first picture of their child.
“Okay...I want to see you
again in a few weeks. And...next time we hear the heartbeat.” She grinned
broadly at the couple as she cleaned off Sara’s abdomen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He got out of the shower and
quickly made his way to the bedroom. There, he found her sitting on the bed
watching some absurd talk show on the television. He sat down beside her and
wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Why do you watch these?”
She laughed loudly.
“Because, they’re hilarious.”
He shook his head gently and
joined in her laughter. Glancing down, he watched at she pulled something from
a small tin beside of her and popped it in her mouth. She looked at him and
grinned.
“Want one?”
“What is it?” His eyes
twinkled at her.
“An Altoid..”
“A what?” He wasn’t sure
that he had ever heard of ‘Altoids’.
“Curiously Strong
Peppermints...” She held one out to him and smiled. “Want one?”
He shook his head at her.
“No...thanks...is that a baby thing?” He knew that her cravings had gotten a
little odd lately, and though he liked peppermint...he wasn’t so sure about
‘curiously strong peppermint’.
She crunched the one in her
mouth between her teeth and swallowed before popping another one in. “No...it’s
a you thing.”
“Huh? What...” His question
was silenced as she slid her body closer beside of him and pushed him back onto
the bed.
She quickly covered his
mouth with hers, pushing her tongue between his lips. He moaned lightly into
her mouth as he felt her hand glide down his chest, pausing only to briefly
scratch her nails across his nipple. He could taste the peppermint, his tongue searching
her mouth for the small piece of candy she had hidden somewhere in there.
She grinned against his
mouth, knowing what he was trying to do. Her mouth left his and moved to his
ear as her hand gently gripped his semi-erect cock. She nibbled lightly on his
lobe as she began to stroke him to full arousal. His head fell against the
pillows as her mouth began to follow the same path her hand took only a few
moments ago.
His hand roamed across her
back, caressing her skin. A small gasp escaped his lips when her tongue flicked
against his nipple gently before pulling it into her mouth.
She shifted her body
slightly, continuing on her quest. She looked up at him as she seductively ran
her tongue across his abdomen. He could feel the heat of the mint against his
skin as she kissed, licked, and nibbled on his flesh.
He felt her body move again,
lower. He knew what was coming and he was slightly apprehensive about it. If
the heat is this intense on my body, what the hell is it gonna be like on my...
His thoughts abruptly ended
there.
His body shivered and his
hands gripped the sheets as he felt her tongue slide up the length of his now
fully erect cock. He gasped as she placed a soft kiss on the head before
engulfing him. His hand released the sheet and gripped her shoulder.
He fought the urge to thrust
into her mouth. The heat from the mint in her mouth was setting him on
fire...and he loved it. He moaned loudly as he watched her head bob up and down
on him. The addition of the mint with the friction of her tongue against him
was bringing him quickly to the edge.
She felt him swell in her
throat and increased her pressure on him, urging him to come. With a loud groan
he unloaded in her mouth as she pulled back slightly. She swallowed all he gave
her along with the mint.
She snaked back up his body
and planted a soft kiss on his lips, which he quickly deepened. He relished the
flavor of himself and peppermint on her tongue. He
carefully began to roll her onto her back. She broke the kiss and pushed him back
down gently, smiling sweetly at him.
“No...”
“What?”
She smiled at the puzzlement
in his eyes and kissed his chest tenderly before resting her head on it. “That
was for you, babe...”
“But...”
She grinned up at him and
ran her fingers through his wet curls. “So...what do you think about Altoids now?”
He chuckled and brushed his
fingers across her cheek. “Definitely strong...nothing ‘curious’ about it.”
She laughed lightly and
yawned. “You can try it on me when we wake up.” She gave him a quick wink and
laid her head back down on his chest, allowing his soft heartbeat to lull her
into sleep.
His arms wrapped around her
and he kissed the top of her head before closing his eyes. He quickly fell into
a slumber as well...his dreams full of visions of their child. A smile graced
his lips in sleep.
Part LVII
He opened his eyes slowly
and yawned. He smiled as he heard her familiar breathing beside of him. Gently
rolling onto his side, he watched her sleep. The steady rise and fall of her
chest, her hand covering her belly, the soft smile on her lips. His heart raced
at the sight.
His eyes glanced towards the
bedside table and found the small red and white tin resting there. His smile
formed quickly as he carefully reached over her and plucked the tin from its
spot. As he opened it, his eyes moved to her face. Her head shifted slightly on
the pillows and he heard her whisper his name. His smile widened as he popped
one of the mints into his mouth, wincing at the strong taste.
His eyes watered slightly,
his sinuses cleared completely. He took a deep breath and grimaced as the air
met the mint, feeling like the
temperature in his mouth instantly dropped by 40 degrees. He shook his head lightly
and wiped the moisture from his eyes. With his vision cleared, he gently
shifted the sheet from her body.
He slowly slid down the bed
and took another deep breath as he positioned himself between her legs. His
inner voices began a debate as he looked up at her face, still peaceful in her
slumber.
He shifted the mint to the
other side of his mouth, running his tongue over the slightly rough place where
it had been sitting previously. With one more quick glance up at her, he turned
his attention to what was in front of him. He sighed heavily and gently parted
her lips with his thumb and forefinger.
She shifted slightly at his
touch and a small moan escaped her lips. His eyes travelled back up her body as
he blew a gentle breeze against her clitoris. Her hands moved across her torso
as she moved closer to him. He smiled, knowing she was still asleep.
His mouth closed over her,
plunging his tongue deep inside of her. Her eyes snapped open as her hands
automatically grabbed for his head. His tongue continued to probe inside of her
as his finger gently slid into her ass. Her hips ground against him, the heat
clouding her mind.
He pulled his tongue from
her and lapped up her juice as it oozed from her. His finger slowly began to
thrust inside of her as he pushed his thumb into her wet slit. Moving the mint
from the inside of his cheek to between his teeth, he ran it across her
hardened clit. He was rewarded with a loud moan and fluid gushing over his
hand.
He positioned the mint on
his tongue, not caring about the burning sensation any longer, and sucked her
clit into his mouth. His finger and thumb moved quicker inside of her, urging
her to come again.
The heat was driving her
into a frenzy. Her hips bucked up against him as his teeth gently scraped
against her sensitive flesh. Her nails dug into his scalp, her moans echoing in
the room. Abruptly, he removed his digits from her and quickly moved up her
body, eliciting a small cry from her.
He smiled at her before
pushing his tongue into her mouth. Her tongue pulled the mint from his mouth as
he pulled back to look at her. Grinning at him, she crunched the remnants of
the mint between her teeth and wrapped her legs around him.
His fingers gently ran
through her hair as he leaned down to kiss her. He could taste the mint and
herself on her own tongue. He groaned into her mouth as he eased himself inside
of her. It felt as if the residue of the mint still clung to her inner walls
where his tongue had been moments earlier. The heat inside of her drove him to
a higher level in his mind.
He thrust slowly into her,
watching her face as he increased his pace gradually. Her hands slid up and
down his back as her back arched into him. She leaned up and licked the sweat
from his neck before allowing her mouth to clamp down on his skin.
He groaned at the sensation
and thrust harder into her. Her legs tightened around him as he gently rolled
her nipple between his fingers. A small drop of sweat fell from his chest and
landed on her breast. His hand moved to slowly massage it into her skin.
Her mouth moved from his
neck as she threw her head back against the pillows, a scream emanating from
her throat as her orgasm forcefully overtook her. His hand glided down her body
to take hold of her hip as he continued to thrust inside of her as she came.
Her muscles clenched violently around him, milking him. Moaning her name, he
came with an intense force and collapsed to her side.
She whimpered lightly as he
slid out of her, instantly missing the feel of him. His hand moved over her
stomach slowly as he pulled her into his arms.
“Good afternoon...” His grin
shone brightly at her.
“Mmmm...what
a wonderful way to wake up.” She sighed as she lightly kissed his damp chest.
“But...”
He looked down at her with
concern in his eyes. “But?”
“I wasn’t sure if you’d do
it or not.” She smiled sweetly at him.
He chuckled lightly.
“Well...I...I almost didn’t.”
She slapped him playfully as
her laughter grew. “I figured as much!”
He smiled widely at her and
leaned down to capture her lips with his. He quickly glanced at the clock and
realized it was time to start getting ready for work. “So...”
“So?”
He laughed gently.
“We...kinda need to get up.” His laughter grew as she pouted at him. “Come
on...let’s take a shower.”
“Together?” She didn’t
bother trying to stifle the laugh.
He tickled her ribs lightly
as the blush rose to his face. “Yeah...we can be careful...and besides...I want
to wash the baby.”
Her laughter stopped
abruptly, her eyes filling with tears. “That...is one of the...sweetest things
you...have ever said...”
He smiled at her and gently
kissed her lips. “What do you think about telling the others about the baby
tonight?”
She grinned broadly at him.
“I think I like that idea!”
He gave her a small wink and
climbed out of bed, pulling her with him.
“So…how are we gonna go
about this?” She asked quietly as he placed her plate in front of her before
sitting down across from her.
“Go about what? Telling the
others?”
She nodded as she began to
quickly shovel the food into her mouth. He smiled at her growing appetite.
Sensing his gaze, she looked up at him.
“What?”
He chuckled lightly.
“Nothing…just…you’re beautiful.”
She laughed, dropping her
fork to her plate. “Oh, yeah. I’m sure I am. I’m sure that watching me inhale a
vegetarian meatloaf is just so
attractive.”
He smiled as he reached over
with his napkin and wiped the corner of her mouth gently. “Well, I think it
is…”
His voice was soft and
comforting…and she could sense the truth in his words.
They held their gaze for a
moment longer, before he spoke again. “So…telling the others…that’s what we
were discussing, correct?”
Her eyes sparkled as she
smiled at him. “Yeah…we were…”
He shrugged his shoulders
lightly as he chewed and swallowed. After taking a sip of the water in front of
him, he looked at her. “I don’t know…what’s wrong with just…telling them?”
“You mean like…’Hey guys, Griss and I are having a baby’?”
He noted the sarcastic tone
in her voice. He smiled to himself and
then proceeded to answer her question…as carefully as possible.
“Or…maybe not. You want to
make a big announcement, then?”
“Well, not huge. But,
something more than ‘Hey, baby on the way’…”
As hard as he tried, he
couldn’t hold back his laughter as the mental image of her walking down the
hall pushing people out of the way while calling out ‘Hey, baby on the way’
made its way into his mind. Soon enough her laughter joined his.
“I’ll think of something
Sara…I promise.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
She stood in his doorway and
watched him. He had insisted on being at work an hour early tonight.
Softly, she cleared her
throat and smiled as he tore his eyes from the papers in front of him to look
at her. “What are you doing?”
He returned her smile with a
bright one of his own. “Paperwork.”
“Uh-huh…paperwork.” She
laughed lightly as he grinned at her. “Well, Mr. Grissom…are you going to do
paperwork all night, or do you have some assignments for us?”
He glanced quickly at the
clock. “Damn…”
“Yeah…you’re late.”
He gave the papers one more
glance, picked them up along with the files for the cases and followed her down
the hall to the breakroom.
He greeted the members of
his team warmly as Sara handed him a cup of coffee. He took a sip and set the
cup on the table, looking around at his family. He smiled at the thought. His
family. Which would soon be one person larger.
Nick and Warrick
exchanged a quick look of confusion as Grissom spoke.
“Where’s Greg?”
Nick fidgeted with the
Styrofoam cup in front of him. “In the lab, I suppose…that is his domain.”
“Well, I need him here. He
needs to be in on this meeting.” He suppressed his smile as four sets of eyes
glared at him in bewilderment.
Sara pushed away from the
counter she was leaning against and began to walk towards the door. “Okay…I’ll
go get him…”
With a quick wink and a
smile, the words rolled off of his tongue with ease. “Thanks, honey.”
Silence filled the room
instantly for a brief moment before the snickering began.
“Honey?”
“Ooh…terms of endearment in
the workplace…”
“No problem, sugarplum.”
Blushing lightly, he
chuckled as he leaned against the wall. “Okay, guys. That’s enough.”
The room quietened slowly,
only to erupt once more with Nick’s comment. “Sorry…babycakes.”
Not very long ago, this
would’ve annoyed him. But, soon, he found himself laughing along with them.
Greg and Sara stood in the
doorway taking in the scene in front of them. Looking back at Sara, Greg simply
shrugged his shoulders and made his way to the empty chair at the table. As
Sara walked in front of him, Grissom gently grabbed her elbow and pulled her
beside of him.
Holding the papers on top of
the folders in a position so she could see them, he gently nudged her arm.
Looking at the folders in his hand, a smile quickly formed on her lips as she
looked into his eyes and mouthed the words ‘I love you’.
With another quick wink, he
turned to the rest of the team who had become engrossed in conversation that he
couldn’t follow. Clearing his throat, he was able to capture their attention.
“Okay, before I hand out the
assignments...there’s something you need to read.”
He began quickly handing out
the papers to his team. No one failed to notice the slight tremble in his hand.
Glancing down at the paper
in his hand, Nick read aloud. “Grissomonius parvulus...”
He looked up at Grissom with confusion in his eyes. “A bug?”
Grissom smiled at the young
man. “Kind of...”
“Discovery date, 7 February 2003...”
Warrick glanced at his boss. “You discovered a new
bug?”
Again he smiled. “Sort
of...”
“Length...approximately 5.5 centimeters. Weight...around 10 grams. The Grissomonius parvulus is mainly a cautious observer,
however it has the potential to become slightly hostile when provoked?” Greg
stared at Grissom, questioning him. “Grissom...what the hell...”
Greg’s question was
interrupted by Catherine. “Attached is a picture of the Grissomonius
parvulus in it’s larval stage.”
She quickly turned to the
next page and promptly screamed. The three men sitting at the table stared at
her for a split second before turning the page to see for themselves.
“Uh...Grissom?”
His smile had widened
tenfold. “Yes, Nick?”
“This looks like
a...well...um...what does Grissomonius parvulus mean
exactly?”
He laughed lightly. “The
literal translation is...Grissom’s infant.”
Warrick grinned at the couple still leaning against
the wall. “And, we’re looking at the first sonogram of the parvulus...”
Sara grinned and leaned
against Grissom. He wrapped his arm around her waist and nodded. “Yes...that’s
our parvulus...”
Greg was finally able to
close his mouth for a brief second. “The larval stage? How far along are you?”
“Nine weeks.” The answer
came in unison from the two.
The team smiled as Grissom
gently rubbed her stomach. Sara suddenly looked up at him with mock-annoyance
on her face. “Larval? Are you calling our child a...larva?”
The room erupted in laughter
once again as Grissom answered her.
“Well...I am the Bug Man, you know...”
She smacked his arm
playfully and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. “You know...in an odd
way...that’s kinda cute. The larva. Very...Grissom of you.”
She grinned at him as he
blushed lightly. “Ready to get to work now?”
Catherine stood and walked
the short distance to them. “Not just yet...”
As she leaned in for a hug,
Sara quietly whispered to her, "Thanks for keeping the secret...and acting
surprised."
Catherine grinned and kissed
her lightly on the cheek. "Contrary to popular belief, I am capable of keeping a secret."
Grissom chuckled lightly at
the statement as Catherine slowly moved to the side as the others began
filtering towards them.
One by one, hugs were
exchanged. Sincere sentiments of congratulations echoed throughout the room.
With the impending arrival of the newest member of the family properly
announced, the assignments were handed out. He made sure to keep Sara and the
larva close to him.
After a seemingly endless
night of collecting evidence, Grissom was more than ready to go home…and his
wife was more than ready to feed herself and the ‘larva’. She chuckled to
herself as she climbed into the passenger seat of the Tahoe and buckled her
seat belt.
Hearing her chuckle, he
turned to her with a small grin on his face. “What?”
She gave him that special
smile and rested her hand on his leg. “Nothing, just…larva?”
He shrugged his shoulders
lightly, his hand covering hers. “Would you expect anything else from an
entomologist?”
Her laughter resonated in
the confines of the vehicle. “No, I wouldn’t…”
Her reply was cut short as
he captured her lips with his, gently easing his tongue into her mouth.
Pulling back slightly, he
grinned at her. “Sorry…you were saying?”
She shook her head slowly.
“I have no idea…”
She shifted in her seat and
leaned over the console between them. Using her left hand to prop herself up,
her right ran through his curls and pulled him back to her. She stopped her
forward motion just before their lips touched. He shivered gently as she breathed
his name.
“Gil?”
“Yes?” His lips were aching
to taste her again.
A smile tugged at her lips.
“The larva needs…” She leaned forward and touched her lips to his for just a
second before leaning back and looking into his eyes. “…snow peas and fried
rice.”
He smiled and gently placed
his hand on her stomach. “Does she?”
“She?”
“Or he?”
“He?”
He quietly snickered. “Well,
it’s one of them…right? He or she?”
She smacked him lightly
across the shoulder. “Yes, it just…caught me off-guard a bit when you said
‘she’…”
“Well, I don’t like calling
the fetus…’it’…” He looked into her eyes to find them
quickly welling up with tears. “Sara…”
His hand moved to caress her
cheek and his thumb caught the tear as it escaped from behind her eyelid. He
smiled sweetly at her, suddenly very happy that he had been reading more about
the hormonal changes in women as they went through pregnancy.
The small sob caught in her
throat as she leaned into his hand. Turning her head slightly, she placed a
gentle kiss on his palm. “I’m sorry, Gil…”
He leaned into her quickly
and kissed her softly. “Hey…there’s nothing to be sorry about, honey.”
He waited until she looked
into his eyes and returned his smile before he continued. “So…snow peas and
fried rice?”
She nodded her head in
silence as he wiped the last tear from her eye.

She grabbed the bag from his
hand and plopped down on the couch. She quickly began pulling out cartons of
food and small containers of different sauces. He sat down beside her, watching
and listening as she rambled.
“God, I love Vegas…”
He chuckled lightly as he
watched her remove the lids of each container of sauce. “Why?”
She shrugged her shoulders
and began pouring the teriyaki sauce over her food. “Where else can you get
fresh Chinese food at 6:30 am?”
The plum sauce was next.
Grissom’s stomach did a mini-flop. “I don’t know…” He reached over and rescued
a snow pea before the onslaught of sweet and sour sauce hit. “Is that the only
reason you love Vegas?”
Drizzling the hot mustard
over the rice, she shook her head. “Nah…I love it for the rodeos as well.
Cowboys are HOT.”
“Cowboys?” He tried to sound
annoyed, but he loved it when she teased him.
She stared at the carton of
rice, snow peas, and sauces in front of her. “Yeah, cowboys. There’s
just…something…about cowboys.”
She realized what her dinner
was missing and stood quickly and walked to the kitchen.
He was picking at his rice
when she walked back in with a bottle in her hand. “So…what is it about
cowboys?”
She tilted her head as she
carefully squeezed the ketchup over her concoction. “I don’t know…they’re
rugged, they have a normally gentle nature…” She looked over at him. “…the ones
I really like though are bow-legged…”
He swallowed hard as she
snapped the lid shut on the catsup. He recognized the look in her eyes as she
smiled at him. “Mainly I like ‘em because…they’re just HOT…”
He cleared his throat and
went back to picking at his rice. “I didn’t really realize you were so
passionate about rodeos…”
She stifled her laugh and
shrugged her shoulders. Stirring the sauces into her rice, she looked up at
him. “You’re a cowboy at heart, you know…”
After he quit choking on his
rice, he returned her gaze. “What?”
She grinned and took a bite
of her dinner. “Not like a rodeo cowboy…but a real cowboy…”
“I am not a cowboy, Sara…” He couldn’t help but grin at her.
She raised her eyebrow at
him and licked the sauce conglomerate from the corner of her mouth. “Yeah…you are.”
He shook his head and
chuckled. “Would you like to elaborate on that for me?”
She gave him a wink and
flashed her ‘for only Gil’ smile at him. “Cowboys are...loners. They live by
their own rules. Like you...”
He interrupted her quickly.
“Sara, I’m not a loner anymore...and we make our own rules, I don’t live only
by mine.”
She grinned at him, pulling
the fork from his hand and placing it on the table in front of them. “...used
to. You didn’t let me finish.”
“Oh...” He watched as she
took his unfinished container of rice and set it beside of the fork. His hands
gently slid to her hips as she crawled on top of him.
She draped her arms over his
shoulders as she settled onto his lap. “Cowboys are also workaholics, you
know...”
His hands pulled her closer
to him. “They are?”
His eyes closed as she
leaned forward and softly pressed her lips to his neck.
“Mm-hm...” Her tongue snaked
out and traced a path along his neck to his ear. She paused long enough to
whisper in his ear. “Sometimes they only stop because they collapse from
exhaustion.”
His hands gripped her hips
tighter as she began to move against him. A small gasp escaped his lips.
“Exhaustion, huh?”
She leaned back slightly and
smiled as he groaned softly. He opened his eyes, revealing their steel gray
color to her. Her smile widened as she rotated her pelvis against his. “Yeah,
exhaustion...remind you of anyone you know?”
His hand moved up her back,
pulling her back towards him. “Probably...”
Their lips met and he
quickly deepened the kiss, pushing his tongue into her mouth. She sucked it
eagerly, tightening her arms around his neck. Her fingers tickled the fine
hairs at the nape of his neck.
His hips gently pushed up
against her as she broke the kiss and looked into his eyes.
“Bedroom?”
Nodding silently, he
released her body as she slid from his lap. Reaching down, she took hold of his
hand and gently pulled him from the sofa.
“Come on, Cowboy...”
Grinning broadly, he allowed
himself to be led down the hall to their bedroom.
