Chapter Twenty Six
Grissom opened the front door to find Sara and
Maddie sitting on the couch, each holding a baby, two cups of steaming coffee
resting on the coffee table in front of them. Sara looked at her husband and
smiled. "You’re home."
Grissom forced a smile to his face, hoping it
didn’t seem fake, as he nodded. "Where’s Weevil?"
"He fell asleep about twenty minutes
ago…"
Grissom walked over and placed a soft kiss on
Sara’s lips. "Will you be okay if I take a quick shower?"
Sara narrowed her eyes and stared up at him.
"You okay?"
"Yeah…I just brought a lot of paperwork
from the office…"
Sara nodded, smiling as her husband reached
down and gently rubbed the head of each twin. He offered Maddie a soft smile
before he turned and made his way down the hall.
Maddie turned to her friend, gentle concern
showing in her eyes. "Everything okay?"
Sara’s smile faded softly. "I think
so."
"Think? What’s going on, Sara?"
"Nothing. I think that’s the
problem…"
Maddie nodded in understanding. "It’s
normal, you know. You have three very young children." Maddie inhaled
deeply. "After Zane, it took Jordy and I a few months before we…"
"Sometimes, I wonder…"
Maddie’s eyes widened slightly as Sara’s voice
trailed off. "Sara, you don’t think that he…well, you know…"
Sara looked into her friend’s eyes, studying
them carefully for a moment, before shaking her head quickly. "No. No, Gil
wouldn’t cheat."
Maddie exhaled forcefully. "I don’t think
he would either…I was just worried that you were thinking about it…"
"No…definitely not. I just wonder…if he’s
upset with me because we haven’t…"
"He doesn’t seem like a shallow man,
Sara."
"It has to be frustrating for
him…especially considering…" Sara blushed quickly and looked down at Alex
sleeping peacefully in her arms.
"Considering how active you were
before?" Maddie finished for her quietly.
Sara cleared her throat as she stood up and
walked the two steps to the bassinet. She placed her son inside and pulled the cotton
baby blanket over him. "Yeah…" Her voice was soft, almost inaudible.
Maddie stood up and handed Ant to his mother,
knowing that Sara would prefer to put him down. "It’s normal, Sara. Trust
me. It’ll happen when the time is right…"
Sara nodded sadly as she settled Ant into the
second bassinet. "I know…"

Grissom stood under the warm spray of water
and sighed. He knew he had absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. He didn’t
encourage Lauren. He just wanted some grapefruit.
The truth was, though, he did feel
guilty. Whether he wanted the woman’s attention or not, he got it.
He closed his eyes as the water pelted his
chest.
Though he knew that he had done nothing wrong,
he also knew that he was going to have to talk to Sara about it. If he didn’t talk to her, he’d just end up
withdrawing from her. And…she’d jump to conclusions.
He shut the water off and sighed heavily.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
She had walked Maddie to the door and bid her
a goodnight, thanking her for coming over while Grissom was gone. Maddie
offered Sara a bright smile, reassuring her that everything would work out.
As she closed the door, she heard the shower
shut off. She smiled to herself and made her way down the hall. Opening the
bathroom door slowly, she found her husband climbing out of the shower with a
towel in his hand.
She sucked in a sharp breath as her eyes drank
in his appearance. She took the towel from his hand as she watched the beads of
water roll down his chest. Her eyes met his; he swallowed hard when he saw the
emotions swimming in her dark orbs.
"Sara…" His eyes closed as she
slowly began drying his body. He stifled a groan as she inadvertently bumped
against his quickly hardening flesh.
"Sorry…" Her voice was low, but
sincere.
He nodded silently as he bit his lip. She
moved behind him and gently dried his back with the soft terry cloth towel. His
eyes snapped open as he felt her place a tender kiss on the back of his neck.
He growled her name as he felt her smile
against his skin. She dropped the towel to the floor and reached around him.
Her nails lightly scratched against his abdomen as her teeth nipped at his
shoulder.
"Gil?" He felt her hot breath on his
skin.
"Mm?"
"I…I don’t think I’m ready to make
love…" She held his body to her as he started to pull away. "Don’t do
that…let me finish."
He gave her a brief nod as his hand covered
hers as it began to creep lower down his abdomen. "Sorry…"
Her tongue flicked against his quickly warming
skin. "It’s okay." She moved her lips to his ear and whispered softly.
"I want to make love with you…but, I don’t think I’m physically
ready." She slid her hand out from under his and quickly grasped his
thickening erection. "But, I can take care of you in other ways…"
He groaned as she began to slowly stroke him.
"You…oh, Sara…you don’t…have to…"
She slid her body around his and faced him.
Her hand tightened around his flesh as her thumb caressed the glans. "I
want to." She leaned into him, prodding his lips open with her tongue.
"I miss feeling you come…"
His response was silenced as she thrust her
tongue into his mouth. His hands held her hips gently as her hand quickened its
pace. He tilted his head slightly, taking control of the kiss. She moaned into
his mouth as his hands slid up her body. He resisted the urge to thrust into
her hand.
She broke the kiss and gazed into his eyes.
She smiled as she gripped his erection even tighter. "Come on, babe. Let
go…" She recognized his reluctance and grinned, sliding her free hand
around his body to lightly grasp the firm cheek of his ass.
He groaned loudly as she squeezed his flesh
and pumped his hips towards her. His eyes slammed shut as he pulled back and
thrust into her hand again. She leaned forward slightly and circled his nipple
with her tongue.
"That’s good, babe. Doesn’t it feel
better when you help out with this?" She smiled as he grunted an
incoherent string of syllables. She moved her mouth next to his ear and
whispered softly to him. "You like fucking my hand, baby?"
He turned his head quickly, capturing her lips
in a passion-filled kiss. He moaned into her mouth as she licked the underside
of his tongue. She loosened her grip on his flesh when she felt the hot fluid
splatter against her t-shirt. She continued to stroke him lightly as she pulled
from his kiss, coaxing another spurt of semen from his slowly softening
erection.
He placed his hand on hers, stilling her
movement, as he gasped for air. She ran her fingers through his wet curls and
smiled. "I love you, Gil."
His glazed eyes opened and he returned her
smile. "I…love you."
She leaned back, releasing him from her hold.
"I’m going to put the boys to bed and check on Mikey…"
He nodded wordlessly and lifted a trembling
hand to her face.
"You finish getting ready for bed…"
He nodded again, allowing his fingers to
lightly caress her skin.
She gave him a smile and a wink, then turned
and left the room. He placed his hands on the counter and breathed deeply as he
caught his own gaze in the mirror.
You still need to talk to her…
He nodded and reached for his toothbrush.
In a slight daze, Grissom made his way to the
bedroom with his towel wrapped around his waist. He blushed lightly as Sara
grinned at him from the bed.
"You know, that’s one of the many things
that I find completely irresistible about you…"
His blush deepened as he pulled on a clean
pair of boxers. "What?"
She chuckled lightly as he climbed into the
bed beside of her. Running her finger down the side of his face, she whispered
softly. "The way you blush over the tiniest things…"
He scowled at her playfully. "I do not
blush."
"You do, it’s cute, don’t argue."
She smiled lovingly as she leaned into him and pressed a tender kiss to his
cheek.
He placed his head on the pillow and rolled
onto his side to look at her. "So, how’s Maddie?"
"She’s fine. She’s been pretty busy with
Jody lately. Apparently, he wants to play football…"
"Football? He’s in…what, the second
grade?"
Sara grinned. "This coming from a man who
bought his son a baseball uniform when he was…"
Grissom chuckled as he interrupted her.
"Hey, that’s different. It’s baseball."
"It’s still a sport that a baby is
not going to understand."
"I disagree. Weevil knows quite a bit
about baseball."
"He knows quite a bit about bugs too.
Makes me wonder if he’s my son at all…" Sara flashed her husband a
brilliant smile.
He returned her smile as he shrugged his
shoulders. "Baseball and bugs are fun, I guess…"
"And Physics isn’t?"
"Uh…no, not really." He covered his
head with his hands as she smacked at him. "I mean, it is fun…but, you
have to admit…a little boy is going to find bugs more interesting than
science." He grinned and kissed her fingertips. "You have seventeen
more years to corrupt him, Sara."
"Ass…"
His laughter grew as she pushed him away. His laughter
slowly quietened as they settled down and he wrapped his arms around her. She
chuckled lightly as she snuggled against him and closed her eyes. Yawning, she
realized something and opened her eyes sleepily. Though he was close to falling
asleep himself, he was suddenly wide awake when he heard her question. His eyes
narrowed slightly as he looked at her.
"What?"
"I thought you were going to pick up some
grapefruit on your way home."
His eyes darted around the room nervously.
"I…uh…I was going to…"
She raised herself up on one elbow and looked
down at him with a smile on her face. "You really aren’t going to try to
tell me that they were out, are you?"
He inhaled sharply as he shook his head.
"No…"
"Gil?"
His eyes focused on the photograph of their three
sons that was hanging on the opposite wall. Sara’s smile slowly faded as her
husband didn’t answer her.
"Gil?"
He rolled his head to his right, feeling his
heart ache as he saw the fear in her eyes. He licked his lips and opened his
mouth to speak. Her whispered voice stopped his words.
"Gil…what happened?"
He raised his hand to touch her face. She
noticed the tremble as his fingers caressed her cheek.
"Nothing." He recognized her
glistening eyes as the telltale sign of her impending tears. "I just…I
need to tell you something."
She pulled away from him and sat up in the
bed, her back resting against the headboard. "Oh, God…"
He sat up quickly and took her hand in his.
"No, no Sara. I didn’t…I’m not…"
"What happened, Gil?"
He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
"I stopped at the market. There was this…woman…"
He gripped her hand tighter, using his free
hand to turn her face back towards him. "She…made a blatant pass…at
me…"
"What?"
"She asked me…well, she asked me to go to
a hotel with her." He blurted quickly.
Sara’s mouth dropped open and she stared at
her husband. "What?"
His thumb gently rubbed across her cheekbone.
His heart was racing in his chest as he tried to come up with the right words.
As he struggled, she tilted her head slightly as she looked into his eyes.
"What did you say?"
"No. I told her no. And then I
left…without grapefruit or anything else."
"Were you…did you…want to?"
He shook his head quickly. "No!"
"Gil, I know that we haven’t been…as
intimate…"
"Sara, it has absolutely nothing to do
with that. I knew…I know that it’ll be a while for us to…" He sighed
lightly as he squeezed her hand. "I’m okay with that. I really am."
"It’s frustrating…"
He smiled as he nodded his hand. "I’m not
going to say it’s not frustrating. I know it’s hard for you too. But…I can wait
as long as we need to." He brushed away the tear that spilled over her
eyelid. "The one thing you never have to worry about is me falling into
bed with another woman…"
She nodded her understanding and moved her
head to kiss his palm. "That’s what was wrong when you came home
then?"
He inhaled deeply. "I didn’t know how to
tell you…and…it wasn’t something that I wanted to discuss in front of
Maddie."
"She’s not the only one, you know…"
Confusion shone in his darkened blue eyes.
"Who? What?"
She chuckled softly. "That…woman.
She’s not the only one to…want you."
His brow furrowed quickly. "The only
woman I care about wanting me is…you."
Sara blushed deeply as she raised her hand and
allowed her fingers to comb through his still damp hair. "I do. But, I’m
not the only one." She grinned as he tilted his head in a silent request
for her to explain her statement. "Do you know how many times I’ve watched
women practically drool over you?"
He coughed lightly and shook his head.
"I…highly doubt that, Sara."
"I know what I see. At crime scenes, at
the lab, on the streets. Everywhere, Gil. You should see some of the looks I
get when we’re out and you reach out to hold my hand…or touch my back…or
just…look at me."
His eyes widened in concern. "What kind
of looks?"
She shrugged her shoulders as her lips formed
a small smile. "Disbelief, jealousy, sometimes anger…"
"Why didn’t you say anything? I
would’ve…"
Her quiet laughter stopped his speech.
"You would’ve what, Gil? Stared at them, yelled at them? What? It’s not a
big deal. I know who you share your bed with, I know who you married, I know
who carries your children." She leaned forward and kissed his lips softly.
"I know who you love."
He nodded slowly, whimpering lightly as she
pulled from the kiss. "I do love you…very much."
She offered him a wink. "Besides, I think
it’s pretty funny that you’ve never noticed it…"
"Why would I?"
She chuckled at the sincerity in his question.
Glancing at the clock, she pushed him down onto the pillows. "Come
on…let’s get some sleep. In a few hours, we’ll have a couple of hungry little
boys demanding our attention."
He wrapped his arms around her as she snuggled
up to him. She smiled sleepily as she felt the tension leave his body.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Hearing the soft cries of one of the twins,
she rolled out of his arms. His hand grasped her wrist, keeping her from
climbing out of the bed.
"Lay back down, honey. I’ll go." He
yawned as he slid out of bed.
He quickly made his way down the hall and into
the twins’ room. He smiled as he reached into the crib and pulled the crying
boy into his arms.
"What’s wrong, Ant?"
He carefully laid him on the changing table
and grabbed a fresh diaper. He wrinkled his nose as he removed the soiled
diaper. "Yucky, Ant…"
Ant responded with a yawn and a slight
whimper. Grissom chuckled as he quickly changed him and picked him back up.
"You hungry, buddy?"
He carefully carried the baby into the
kitchen, successfully avoiding the obstacles of chairs and tables without
turning on the lights. He opened the refrigerator door and pulled out a fresh
bottle. He glanced down at his son and shook his head slowly as he opened the
microwave.
"Warm formula. I don’t understand it,
son…but, if that’s the way you want it…"
Ant wiggled and stuck his tiny fist into his
mouth. Grissom studied each movement that his son made as he waited for the
bell to signal that the bottle was ready.
"Of course, I don’t understand how your
brother drinks cold formula. It’s all pretty nasty if you ask me…"
He pulled the bottle from the microwave and
quickly tested the temperature of the liquid. The smell of the formula always
slightly nauseated him at 3 am, but it was something he dealt with. He’d deal
with anything where his children were concerned.
He smiled as he gently removed Ant’s fist from
his mouth and replaced it with the nipple of the bottle. He walked into the
living room and sat down on the couch, rocking his son as he whispered the
words of love that each of his boys had become accustomed to hearing.
Sara yawned as she climbed out of bed and
wandered down the hall and into the nursery. She carefully picked up the crying
baby and kissed him on the head lightly. Looking into the other empty bassinet,
she smiled as she gazed into her son’s bright blue eyes.
"Where are your brother and father,
Alex?"
Alex whimpered and wrapped his tiny fingers
around Sara’s index finger as she softly spoke to him.
"You don’t think they took off without
us, do you?" She smiled as Alex interrupted his coo with another whimper.
"I don’t think we have to worry about that, Little One. I see a light on
in the living room. How much you wanna bet that’s where they are? Come on, let’s
get you a bottle."
Sara cuddled her infant son as she walked into
the living room. She stopped suddenly, her smile widening as her eyes focused
on the couch. Grissom was sitting on one end, holding Alex’s twin protectively.
Ant’s empty bottle was lying on the sofa beside of them, her husband’s head was
reclined on the back cushion. Both of them were sleeping soundly.
She walked into the kitchen and pulled a
bottle of formula from the refrigerator. Alex sucked hungrily on the nipple as
she sat down on the opposite end of the couch. Feeling the sofa shift somewhat,
Grissom opened his eyes and rolled his head to the side.
"You okay?"
She smiled as she nodded. "Alex was
hungry too…"
He sat up and reached his hand out, gently
caressing his son’s head. "I’m sorry…I didn’t hear him."
"It was just a whimper; he hadn’t gone
into a full-blown tantrum." She chuckled lightly.
Alex finished his bottle relatively quickly as
his parents discussed certain cases that had come up while they’d both been
absent from the lab. After Alex had fallen back asleep, they took the twins
back into the nursery and got them settled before walking back to the living
room.
Sara flipped on the television, quickly
finding a forensic program. Grissom chuckled as he picked up his briefcase and
placed it on the coffee table. Sara curled up on her end of the couch and dozed
lightly as her husband began going through the case folders that he had picked
up at the lab earlier.
He glanced at the clock when his cell phone
rang. 3:22 am. He answered it quickly, hoping that it didn’t wake his wife. He
sighed as he saw Sara’s eyelids slowly slip open.
"Grissom."
"Griss, it’s Nick." Nick paused and
not hearing anything else, he decided to continue. "I was wondering if I
could get your help with something. It’s pretty important."
Grissom nodded as his hand gently stroked his
wife’s calf. "Sure. You coming over now?"
"Is that okay?"
Grissom closed his eyes briefly. "Yes.
But, if you wake up any of the boys, there’ll be hell to pay."
Nick chuckled nervously as he hung up the
phone. Grissom snapped his phone shut and looked at Sara, who was now wide
awake. "Who’s coming?"
"Nick. Needs my help with
something."
Sara nodded as she pushed herself up from the
couch. "Want me to make some coffee?"
He grasped her wrist quickly as he shook his
head. "No, it shouldn’t take that long. And I plan on going back to bed
after he leaves."
She grinned as he pulled her back down beside
of him. "Plan on sleeping?"
He chuckled as he leaned into her and kissed
her lips gently. "Maybe not…"
He groaned as she deepened the kiss. He
groaned louder when the soft knock on the front door was heard. She patted his
chest soothingly and offered him a wink.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Nick followed Grissom into the living room and
smiled at Sara. "What are you doing up at this hour?"
Sara grinned as her husband sat down beside of
her. "With two seven-week-old boys, you shouldn’t be too surprised…"
Nick laughed lightly as he sat down in the
chair. "Yeah…"
He sat back in the chair and looked at his
supervisor. "Griss, we had a problem tonight."
Grissom furrowed his brow as he leaned
forward. "I thought you needed help with a case…"
"I…uh…well, no, not really." He took
a deep breath and shook his head. "There was a call…bar brawl resulting in
the death of this guy. He was stabbed in the throat. Man, there was blood everywhere…"
"Uh-huh…" Grissom’s eyes narrowed
slightly as he waited for Nick to get to the point.
"I took Greg with me. He wanted more
experience in the field. Hodges was working in the lab…"
"Nick…"
Nick nodded quickly. "I’m getting there,
Griss." He ran his fingers through his short, dark hair. "Turns
out…the bar was where Greg’s girlfriend works part-time."
Nick’s eyes darted to Sara when he heard her
soft gasp. "She wasn’t hurt. But she saw everything. When we got there,
she was huddled in a corner and covered in blood. She was obviously in shock
and Greg…well…he freaked."
"Did you send him out?"
"No…no, after he made sure she was okay,
I got him to help me collect the evidence and question some of the
witnesses…"
"Nick, Greg had no business being
there." Grissom’s eyes darkened. "When you realized that he was that
close, you should’ve sent him out. You can’t have conflict of interest in a
case. Greg, though he’s a nice guy and wouldn’t purposely compromise a case,
would get too involved…accidents can happen. Cases are thrown out of court for
less…"
"I know, Griss. But we’re already one
short without Sara there. And now, with you not coming in…"
Grissom clenched his jaw. "Nick, don’t go
there."
Seeing the look in Grissom’s eyes, Nick
back-pedalled quickly. "No, no that’s not what I mean. It was a lot of
work and I couldn’t do it alone. Warrick and Catherine were across town…I
needed help."
Placing a hand on her husband’s arm, Sara
spoke gently to Nick. "How’s Greg?"
"He was pretty shaken up…I didn’t know
what to do. Figured you guys might be able to help me out."
Grissom pursed his lips and inhaled deeply.
"Okay…ask Greg to come by here in the morning. I’ll talk to him."
Nick nodded and stood up. "I’m sorry,
Griss. I didn’t mean to insinuate that this happened because you weren’t
there…"
"If I were there, it wouldn’t have
happened because I would’ve sent Greg away from the scene."
With a worried glance to Sara, Nick bit his
lip and nodded once more. "I’ll…I’ll make sure Greg comes by…"
Sara walked Nick to the door as Grissom went
back to his paperwork. As she opened the door, she offered him a smile.
"Don’t worry…we all make mistakes. It’ll be okay…"
"Sara, I really didn’t mean that the way
it sounded…"
Sara nodded and ushered him out the door.
"I know, really I do. Now, get to work, Stokes…"
Nick returned her smile with a thin one of his
own.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Grissom looked up as Sara sat back down.
"Don’t tell me I was too hard on him…"
Sara chuckled. "No…you were right."
She pulled a couple of scene photos from the case folder he was working on. As
she studied them, she sighed. "Gil?"
"Hm?"
"I want to go back to work."
He dropped his pen onto the file and looked
into her eyes. "Sara…"
"It’s not because of what happened
tonight or because of what Nick said. I…I miss work. I miss going to the scenes
and being excited because there’s a new puzzle to help you solve…"
He thought for a moment and nodded slowly.
"I know. And I’m actually surprised we haven’t had this discussion
earlier…"
"I knew I couldn’t come back any
earlier…"
"You still haven’t been released by the
doctor to return to work." He shifted his eyes to the family portrait that
was perched on the mantle. "And…we’d have to find a babysitter…"
"I’ve thought about that…"
He arched an eyebrow at her. "And?"
She sighed heavily. "And I haven’t come
up with anyone…"
He leaned back against the couch and pulled
her into his arms. "Well, we could ask Maddie…"
Sara shook her head quickly. "I wouldn’t
feel right asking her to take time away from her family." She tapped her
fingers against Grissom’s thigh. "What about Catherine’s sister?"
"No…she still looks after Lindsey most
nights. If Naomi wasn’t a public defender, I’d ask her. She was saying the
other day that she’d like to work more on the same schedule as Jim. But there’s
always the possibility of her being called in while we’re both at work." A
hint of a smile graced his lips. "Hey, what about your parents? We could
rent them a nice apartment until they get a B&B started here…"
"Uh…no. First of all, I cannot see my
parents living in Vegas. Second of all, they’d have the boys renamed by the
time we got home from our first shift back at work. We’d walk in and we
wouldn’t have Mikey, Alex, and Ant. We’d have Moonbeam, Lakebed, and
Freedom."
Grissom laughed heartily as he nodded in
agreement. "Probably…"
"It’s definitely something to think
about. I don’t want to hire just anyone to come in…spend four nights a week in
our home…taking care of our children. Not after…"
He kissed her head lovingly as her voice
trailed off. "I know, honey."
"I want to go back to work…you’re
going to have to go back pretty soon." She smiled as he questioned
her silently. "If you don’t, Catherine’s going to replace pictures of our
family with ones of Lindsey in your office…"
"Not funny, Sara…"
She silenced his small lecture with a kiss. He
groaned as her tongue slipped into his mouth. She smiled as she pulled back and
looked into his eyes.
"Ready to go to bed?"
He nodded quickly as his chest heaved, and he
quietly followed her down the hall to their bedroom.
Following her into their bedroom, he smiled as
she climbed onto the bed. He traced her steps quickly and slid under the
blankets with her. His hand rested lightly on her hip as he leaned over and
resumed the passionate kiss that they had started just moments before in the
living room.
He pushed the covers from her body as his hand
roamed over her, gently pushing the hem of her t-shirt upwards. His fingers
carefully skirted around the healing incision on her abdomen. As his gaze
focused on the seven-week-old scar, she shifted uncomfortably and placed her
hand on her belly.
He looked up quickly, finding her glistening
brown eyes pleading with him. He lifted his hand and caressed her cheek as he
softly questioned her.
"What’s wrong?"
She broke the gaze and stared at his bare
chest. "It’s…ugly…"
His heart ached as he heard the hitch in her
voice. "What?"
The tear slipped from her eye as she pulled
her other hand in between their bodies and placed it over the scar as well. His
thumb collected the tear as he pressed a tender kiss to her trembling lips.
"Sara…" He pushed himself up and
offered her a loving smile as he covered her hands with his left. "Let me
tell you something…"
She looked up at him, sniffling lightly.
"Okay…"
"I think this little scar is one of the
most beautiful things about you."
She rolled her eyes as she wiped the back of
her hand across her eyes. "Gil…"
"No, I’m serious, Sara." He slowly
eased her right hand away from her abdomen. "This isn’t something that I’m
just saying to make you feel better." He grinned down at her. "You
know I don’t do that."
"I didn’t think you did…"
"I don’t. Now, listen…" He shifted
his body down the bed slightly and pulled her left hand from her stomach. He
glanced down at the scar before looking back into her eyes. His fingers gently
glided over the puckered skin. "Because of this scar, I have two beautiful
sons. I don’t want to think about what would’ve happened…if this scar weren’t
here. So, to me…this imperfection is perfect. It’s simple and beautiful,
much like the butterflies hanging throughout this house. They all have
imperfections…it’s what makes them real. It’s what makes them beautiful."
He dipped his head and kissed her abdomen
above and below the scar. She wound her fingers in his hair and tugged gently.
He looked up and smiled softly at his wife. She whispered a quiet "thank
you" and closed her eyes as he kissed her hip, allowing his tongue to
snake out and taste her tender flesh.
She inhaled sharply at the contact, causing
him to snap his head up. He offered her a shy smile. "I’m sorry…"
She shook her head as her trembling fingers
touched the side of his face. "No…no, it’s alright…I just wasn’t expecting
it."
He stared into her eyes for a few moments,
allowing his fingers to slide back and forth over the smooth flesh of her
thigh. Licking his lips, he pushed himself back up beside of her. His gaze
darted between her eyes and lips as his hand slowly slipped between her thighs.
She gasped lightly as his fingertips brushed across the slightly damp hair that
he encountered.
His eyes widened somewhat as he grinned at
her. Placing her hand on the back of his neck, she pulled his lips to hers as
she blushed lightly. His fingers gently parted her lower lips as her tongue
pushed its way into his mouth. He sucked hungrily on the lithe muscle as his
fingers found her quivering clitoris. His erection throbbed against her hip.
She groaned into his mouth as he lightly
pressed against her sensitive bundle of nerves. She pulled from the kiss and
gazed into his eyes. She bit her lip as he increased the pressure.
"Is…this okay?"
She grunted something that vaguely sounded
like "yes" and reached down between them. He groaned as she caressed
his length with the palm of her hand.
He nuzzled her neck as his finger slid through
her folds and gently prodded at her opening. He nipped at her skin, gasping
lightly, when her thumb rubbed over the head of his engorged flesh. His hips
jerked involuntarily as she groaned his name.
He lifted his head, glancing into her eyes as
his thick digit entered her. Her fingers wrapped around his pulsating erection.
Her lips parted as if she was going to say something, but no words came out. He
smiled lightly and lowered his head to the crook of her neck.
They settled into a gentle rhythm as they
continued to stroke one another. His breath was hot on her neck as he exhaled
deeply. His thumb circled her clitoris as his finger pressed against the one
spot that rendered her speechless. She tightened her fingers around him,
groaning into his ear.
He pulled her earlobe into his mouth, nipping
at it lightly between his teeth. He whispered a gentle "I love you"
as he thrust his hips against her hand. She returned the sentiment in a short
series of grunts as she tilted her pelvis, bringing his thumb into contact with
her hardened nub of erectile tissue.
She whimpered as he released her earlobe and
pushed himself up. He repositioned himself quickly, but carefully. She refused
to relinquish her hold on his erection. Instead, she tightened her grip on him,
stroking him at a steady pace. He shifted most of his weight to his knees as he
knelt beside of her body.
With one quick glance to her face, he smiled as
he lowered his head and slowly licked a path across her thigh. She bent her
right leg and shifted her body slightly to make them both more comfortable as
her eyes closed.
She shuddered as she felt his warm breath on
her aching center. Her hand stilled on the flesh she was gripping as she felt
his tongue flick against her throbbing clitoris. She bit her lip to stifle the
scream as she felt him slide a second finger into her.
He tilted his head slightly and looked up at
her. Their eyes met as his tongue pressed against the quivering nub. She saw
the question in his eyes as he gently pulled her clit into his mouth. She
nodded, her hand resuming its movements on his erection. She stroked him
quickly as she wound the fingers of her free hand into his hair.
She felt his flesh expand in her hand. Knowing
he was close, she pressed her center against his mouth and rotated her hips. He
groaned against her as he felt her inner walls begin to tighten. He sucked her
clit as she tugged on his erection in a silent request for him to shift his
body. His teeth nipped at her sensitive nub as he felt her lips surround the
head of his hardened flesh.
Her tongue circled the glans as she tilted her
head to pull him into her mouth. He groaned as he felt the head bump against the
back of her throat. Her forced himself to keep his hips still as her lips slid
down his length.
Her tongue tickled the underside of the shaft
as his fingers pushed further into her. She pulled back until only the glans
remained confined to her mouth. Her lips held the head in place as she
increased her suction. His loud groans were stifled as she tightened her thighs
around his head.
He felt her fluids gush around his fingers as
he erupted in her mouth. She swallowed hungrily as his tongue continued to
flick across her clit throughout her orgasm. Her nails scratched across the
back of his neck. His softening flesh slipped from her mouth as he released her
clitoris and gently removed his fingers from her still-spastic depths.
He rested his head on her thigh as he tried to
catch his breath. She smiled down at him as she pushed herself up on her
elbows.
"You okay?"
He nodded silently and rolled onto his back,
his feet resting on the pillows. She grinned as she repositioned her body and
laid her head on his chest.
"I love you, Gil."
He muttered a response that she assumed was an
incoherent version of "I love you". She smiled as he tightened his
arms around her and placed a sleepy kiss on the top of her head. As she
listened to his breathing pattern change, his hold on her loosened.
Her fingers touched the puckered flesh of her
scar lightly before she relaxed in his embrace. She sighed lightly and wiped
the tear from her cheek before she closed her eyes. They still had a couple of
hours for sleep before Weevil awoke.
Grissom’s dream was shattered as his eyes
snapped open when he heard his son’s scream. He rushed across the hall, with
Sara following closely, to find Mikey standing in his crib. His fingers gripped
the railing tightly as the tears streamed down his face. Grissom picked him up
quickly, his heart racing as the boy wrapped his arms around his neck and
buried his face in his shoulder.
"Mikey, what’s wrong?"
Mikey shivered violently and rubbed his face
with his small hands. Grissom ran his hand up and down his son’s back as he
whispered softly.
"Did you have a bad dream, buddy?"
Mikey nodded slowly and tightened his grip
around his father’s neck. "Bad dweem."
"Do you want to tell me about it?"
Mikey’s fingers ran through the fine hairs at
the nape of his father’s neck. "I wanna see Awec an’ And."
Grissom glanced into his wife’s eyes as he
pressed a soft kiss into the curls covering Mikey’s head. "Okay…but
they’re asleep, so…"
"I be quiet, Daddy."
They walked the few steps down the hall and
Sara opened the nursery door. As they entered the room, Mikey turned to his
mother with his index finger covering his lips. Sara nodded as she offered her
son a gentle smile.
Grissom quietly made his way to the two
bassinets and smiled as the fear in Mikey’s eyes dissipated. Mikey pointed
towards his brothers as he looked at his father.
"Need ta kiss ‘em."
Grissom chuckled lightly as he positioned
Mikey so that the boy could lean into each bassinet and place a soft kiss on
each baby’s head. As he stood back up, Mikey looked into his eyes and smiled
lightly.
"Wub my bubbas."
"I know you do. They love you too, you
know."
"Daddy?"
Grissom closed the twins’ door behind him as
he stepped into the hall. "Hm?"
"Can I sweep wif oo an’ Mommy?"
Grissom smiled as he looked into his son’s
hazel eyes. "Why don’t you ask Mommy?"
Mikey quickly turned his head towards his
mother. "Mommy? Can I sweep wif oo an’ Daddy?"
Sara grinned as she held her hands out to him.
"Can I have a hug?"
Mikey untangled his arms from Grissom’s neck
and leaned towards Sara. She pulled him into her arms and placed a kiss on his
cheek. He snuggled against her chest as he laid his head on her shoulder.
Mikey yawned deeply as Sara sat on the edge of
the bed. She gently pried his arms from around her neck and laid his head down
on the pillows in the middle of the bed. Michael’s eyes watched each of his
parents climb into the bed with him, and he smiled as his lids fluttered
closed.
Grissom watched his son for a moment before
raising his eyes to meet the concerned stare from his wife. He sighed lightly
as he reached over and caressed her cheek.
"He’s okay, Sara."
"Gil…what was that? He woke up
screaming…and then needed to see Alex and Ant?"
"Just a bad dream. I’ve had them my
entire life."
"That was more than ‘just a bad dream’.
He was terrified…" Sara ran her fingers through her son’s hair. "I
think it stems from the kidnapping…"
"Sara…"
She shook her head quickly. "No,
Gil…don’t just talk it away. It happened. Imagine how he must've felt."
Grissom looked down at his son, who was
sleeping peacefully now. He gently stroked his face as he sighed heavily.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Grissom had spent the better part of the day
playing with Mikey, subtly gaining clues about his son’s nightmare through
simple questions. At one point, Sara had wondered if her husband had gone into
the wrong profession as he easily pulled the answers from the young boy.
He hadn’t wanted to leave his family, but it
was necessary for him to go into the office for a couple of hours. Sara had
promised that she would call him if she needed him. He inhaled deeply as he
walked through the front doors of the building.
Seeing Greg talking to the young woman at the
front desk, he frowned slightly. He walked over and quickly signed in before he
glanced over at the young man as Greg asked for an application.
"An application? Not happy in the lab,
Greg?"
Greg chuckled lightly as he took the paper
from Judy. "Nah…it’s for Jessie…"
Grissom nodded quickly. "How is she? I
heard that last night was a bit overwhelming."
"Last night scared the hell out of me, to
be honest about it." He shook his head slowly as he met Grissom’s eyes.
"I mean, what if you walked in to find Sara covered in blood?"
Grissom’s eyes darkened. "I’ve had
nightmares about that, actually…"
Greg stared at his supervisor, at a complete
loss for words. Grissom offered him an understanding smile as he pointed
towards the application in Greg’s hand.
"So, Jessie wants a job here?"
"Huh?" Greg followed Grissom’s gaze
and shook his head. "No, not really. But, it’s a part-time job on third
shift. She’s not comfortable being at the bar now…she quit this morning. She
can’t work full-time right now because of school…and if she works during the
day, that means that we don’t get that much time together…"
Grissom’s smile widened slightly. "You
two seem to be getting pretty serious…"
Greg shrugged his shoulders as his face began
to redden.
Grissom chuckled as he motioned towards the
elevator with his head. "Ready to head up?"
"Yeah…I guess. I’m going to have a long
night."
Grissom sighed as he nodded. "I know what
you mean, Greg…"
Greg turned his eyes towards Grissom, but saw
nothing in the older man’s eyes that would explain his last statement. The
elevator doors slid open and Greg followed Grissom inside.

Grissom opened his front door to find Sara
sitting on the sofa, her eyes focused intently on the television. Glancing at
the screen, he chuckled as he placed his briefcase on the floor and lowered
himself to the cushion beside of her.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Nothing…" He leaned over and placed
a kiss on her temple. "What are they investigating tonight?"
"It’s a repeat actually. You remember the
one where the guy killed his girlfriend and dismembered her in the tub…then
said that the blood the investigators found was from the chickens he had
slaughtered?"
Grissom nodded as he handed her the latest
issue of the Forensic Science Journal. "Here, I picked this up for
you." He motioned towards the television. "Better than repeats of Forensic
Files."
Sara grinned as she flipped through the
magazine. "Thanks."
Grissom exhaled slowly. "How’s
Weevil?"
"He’s fine." She looked into her
husband’s eyes. "When did you get so knowledgeable about child
psychology?"
He shrugged his shoulders lightly. "When
I became a father, I guess."
Her fingers rested on his thigh as she leaned
her body against his. "You think he’s going to be okay?"
"Oh yeah…it was just a bad dream, Sara.
It’s not post-traumatic stress disorder." He wrapped his arm around her.
"I’m serious; I used to have night terrors as a child. It kind of
surprised Mom when I chose to go into this profession."
She sat up suddenly, as though she had just
remembered something. There was a hint of a smile in her eyes as she looked at
him. His brow furrowed in slight confusion.
"What?"
"When have you been teaching Mikey sign
language?"
"I wouldn’t say that I’ve been teaching
him. Sometimes, I sign when I talk to him when we’re playing…why?"
Sara shook her head in amusement. "I was
putting him to bed tonight and he signed a complete sentence. It was just…very
cute."
Grissom chuckled through his yawn. "What
did he say?"
His eyes focused on her as she repeated their
son’s movements. He grinned as his mind quickly translated the hand motions.
"I think I need a nap?"
Sara laughed lightly as she nodded. "And
then, he was out like a light."
Grissom yawned again as he stretched his back.
Sara placed the palm of her hand on Grissom’s chest. "I think his father
needs a nap too…"
He rubbed his eyes as he sat forward on the
sofa. "I need to go over a couple of cases, and then I’ll head off to bed
for a while."
Sara stood up and grabbed his hand.
"No…sleep first, work later." She tugged his hand. "Come on,
Gil…sleep with me."
"Well…" He stood up and allowed
himself to be led down the hall. "Since you put it that way…"
Sara shook her head lightly as she chuckled.
