“You’re dating a balloon?”
Sara laughed as she removed
the paintbrush from her mouth. “No…I’m
painting a baboon.”
Grissom furrowed his
brow. “Oh…well, that doesn’t make much
more sense to me. Why are you painting a
baboon?”
“Mom’s birthday is coming up
in a couple of weeks.”
“Uh-huh…”
She offered him a bright
smile as she easily read his confusion.
“Mom loves baboons. Don’t ask me
why. And, this is something that I’ve done
ever since I was young.”
“Okay.” He pulled up a chair beside of her and sat
down. “Can I watch?”
She shrugged her shoulders
as she chuckled. “It’s not that
exciting…”
He smiled lightly as his
blue eyes sparkled. “It is to me.”
She blushed and turned back
towards the canvas in front of her. It
was quiet for a few moments, until he moved his eyes from the painting to look
at her.
“It’s very good, Sara.”
She grinned as she added
another shade of green to the background.
“Thanks.”
He smiled as he leaned back in
his chair, content to just sit quietly and watch his girlfriend create a work
of art.

Hearing his cell phone
ringing down the hall, Grissom sighed heavily as he stood up and quickly left
the room. Sara smiled as she put the
finishing touches on the painting, then packed up her
supplies.
Walking into the living
room, she watched silently as he slowly paced back and forth with the phone to
his ear. Sensing her presence, he looked
up and winked at her.
“Twenty minutes…” He listened for a moment, a light smirk
playing on his lips. “I’ll see if I can
talk her into it.”
He snapped the phone shut
and smiled at Sara. “That was Brass…”
“Figured that…” She chuckled as she saw the excitement in his
eyes. “Bugs?”
“Oh yeah…” He slipped his shoes on and walked to the
bedroom to change his shirt. “Wanna come with me?”
“I have paint all over me…”
He shook his head as he ran
a brush through his hair. “Well…I’m
going to have to leave in five minutes, tops.”
“How about I meet you
there?”
He offered her a bright grin
and rattled off the address. She nodded
and headed off to the shower.
Grabbing his keys, he heard
the water running. He smiled as he
opened the bathroom door and stuck his head inside.
“I’m leaving now, honey.”
“Okay,
babe. I’ll be there soon.”
He pried his eyes from her
silhouette, knowing that if he didn’t they would both
be late. “Be careful, I love you.”
“Love you too.” She laughed lightly, realizing that he was
still standing in the doorway. “Go…I’ll
be right behind you…”
A half-grin appeared on his
face as he listened to her laughter.
“Okay…I’m really leaving now.”
She rinsed the shampoo from
her hair as she heard the door close.

Brass was leaning against
the porch railing when Grissom pulled into the driveway. He glanced at his watch as the investigator
climbed out of the
“Twenty-two minutes…you’re
late.”
Grissom rolled his eyes as
he climbed the front steps. “I thought I
was the precise one…”
“Well, you know…we all have
our moments.”
He pushed the front door
open and followed Grissom inside. “We
have blood, we have bugs, we have evidence of a
struggle. But…we have no body.”
Grissom glanced around the
room, then bent down quickly and captured an insect attempting to scurry back
into the dark. “Well…with
the amount of blood here, the body wouldn’t have gotten up and walked away.”
“Yeah…even I figured that
one.”
Grissom placed a couple of
the insects into separate specimen jars and looked up at the detective. “Actually, Jim…I was talking to myself.”
“Do that often?”
Grissom chuckled as he
swabbed the blood. “Not as often as I
used to…”
Brass shot a smirk in his
friend’s direction. “So, where is Sara,
anyway? I figured she’d jump at something
like this…”
“She’s on her way. She needed to take a shower…”
Jim arched an eyebrow. “Oh? Busy evening?”
Grissom closed his eyes for
a brief moment as he shook his head in amusement. “For her…she was painting.”
“Painting? Like…a
room?” Now Brass was extremely
interested. “Anything you two need to
announce?”
Grissom looked up at Jim and
narrowed his eyes. “No. She was painting a baboon for her mother.”
“A
baboon?”
“Yeah, apparently her mother
loves them.”
“Baboons?” He shook his
head as Grissom stared at him. “Who the
hell likes baboons?”
“Mom does…”
Both men turned their heads
in the direction of the slightly out of breath voice. Grissom smiled at the brunette as she walked
into the room and knelt down beside of him.
“Hey…”
“Hey…what do we have?”
Grissom gestured towards the
massive pool of blood. “Bugs, blood, no
body…”
Sara wrinkled her nose. “A lot of bugs…a lot of blood…”
Grissom gave her a wink as
his grin widened. “A
lot of fun.”
Listening to the Geek
Flirting Ritual, Brass shook his head as he tripped over the debris.
