They boarded the plane in Vegas. Destination? Chicago. Reason? A seminar on—bugs. She wasn’t as obsessed with entomology as he was, but found it interesting. So, why was she going? Because Grissom asked her. Three days out of Vegas, in Chicago, with him? Any more questions?

They didn’t have to hide for three days. They could be themselves. They didn’t have to be supervisor and subordinate. They could simply be Gil and Sara, two people very much in love with each other.

She noticed an immediate change in him as soon as they sat down in the plane. He was almost giddy—like a child at Christmas. She couldn’t help but smile as he started rambling about how "cool this is going to be".

Had he actually said "cool"? She giggled to herself when she realized that yes, indeed, he had. He was talking excitedly nonstop. "I hope they have cadaver demonstrations!"

She turned in her seat sideways to look at him. "Gil?"

He looked at her with a huge smile on his face. She couldn’t help but smile at the look of obsession in his eyes. "Yeah?"

"Are you only excited about the bugs?"

He looked confused for a second and then realized that he had been rambling about insects for 10 minutes. Smiling at her, she saw the obsession fade somewhat. "Of course not. Three days, alone with you, in Chicago. This is going to be great!" After a brief pause, he added, "The bugs are just a bonus!"

Shaking her head and laughing, she took hold of his hand and leaned over to him. "I love you Grissom."

He grinned and the light sparkled in his eyes. "I love you Sidle."

The engines started just as he kissed her.

She dozed off for a while. It had been a very hectic evening the night before. Three challenging cases, packing, rushing to the airport. She was tired. He let her sleep, gently rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb as he was reading a magazine.

He felt her stirring and looked over at her. She amazed him. It took him so long to realize that his love for her was true, and he almost lost her. They had discussed Hank one time before.

"He never held a candle to you, Gil." That’s what she had told him.

He had put her through so much hell during that time. He never would’ve dreamed that 6 months later they’d be on a plane to Chicago together. Six months ago, he would’ve just gone to the seminar alone. But, he didn’t want to be away from her for 3 days so he asked her to come with him. He smiled to himself as he watched her sleep. He was very lucky. Tightening his hold on her hand, he went back to his magazine.

"What are you reading?"

He looked over at her and smiled. "I thought you were asleep."

She returned his smile. "Not anymore. What are you reading?"

"Applied Psychodynamics in Forensic Science."

"Ah…your source for what high altitude does for libido." She grinned at him.

"Huh?"

"Remember that case we had? The guy had a fever and went crazy on the plane. The passengers killed him. We found sperm in the bathroom."

His eyes lit up. "Oh, yeah! You told me about your sexcapades in a plane in ’93. Ken Fuller, I believe was his name."

"Uh-huh. And you told me that high altitude enhances sexual experience and increases euphoria. And that you read it in a magazine I had never heard of."

He grinned at her. "Proof it exists!"

"Yeah, but that wasn’t your real source. Was it?"

He laughed nervously. "That was a LONG time ago. I was still in college. On my way from Chicago to LA for an interview."

She finally got him to admit it! "What was her name?"

"Sara, it’s not important. It was a long time ago. I was a kid basically. I got worked up. It actually wasn’t a very pleasant experience."

"It wasn’t?"

"No, I ended up with 10 stitches in my knee and a knot on my head."

She laughed hysterically. "I thought that was from a fall in school?"

He grinned sheepishly at her. "Well, technically…"

She laughed. "Let me give you a good memory."

He was stunned. "Really?!"

She was only partly joking to begin with. But his enthusiasm over her suggestion quickly changed her mind. She ran her finger around his ear, down his jaw line, and over his lips. It drove him crazy when she did that and he could feel the excitement.

Slowly, inconspicuously, she let her finger trace a path down his chest and abdomen, letting her hand come to a rest in his lap. Giving a gentle squeeze, she stood up and leaned over to whisper to him.

"Give me 5 minutes and knock three times." She gently licked his ear and turned to walk down the aisle.

Looking at his watch, he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to make it 5 minutes. He couldn’t believe that he was going through this again. But, he reasoned with himself, this time it was different. This time it was with someone he loved. This time it was with Sara.

Glancing back down at his watch, he realized it had only been 2 minutes. Three to go? He contemplated waiting, then decided to make his way on back to her. He stood up and made his way down the aisle to the lavatory.

Standing in front of the door, he could feel his heart race as he lifted his hand for three quick knocks on the door. She quietly opened the door and he stepped inside and into her arms.

"I thought I said 5 minutes."

Burying his face in her neck, he murmured, "I couldn’t wait any longer." She smiled and feeling his hands start to undress her, she began tugging at his clothes.

Pulling back from her long enough to pull his shirt off, she quickly leaned forward to kiss his chest. As her tongue danced across his nipple, she began lowering herself to her knees--licking every inch of his chest and abdomen.

Looking up at him, she began undoing his belt while seductively licking the leather. She rose up slightly to run her tongue over his sides as she pulled his pants down. He leaned against the locked door and closed his eyes as he felt her mouth around him. Her tongue was circling his shaft and she could hear him softly moan.

Gently pulling off of him, she stood in front of him. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she began nibbling at the sensitive skin of his neck as he carefully picked her up and set her on the sink.

"Not much room to maneuver in here."

She wrapped her legs around his waist and looked into his eyes. "I’m sure you can figure it out…we’ve been in tighter spots than this."

He kissed her passionately, sucking her tongue into his mouth. She pulled him closer with her legs and felt him slowly enter her.

"Oh Gil!" She started rocking her hips in time with his.  She lightly grazed her fingernails over his back and buried her face in his chest.

"Sara…" he was moaning softly, but getting louder. "Sara…oh damn…Sara…"

She quickly moved her mouth to his and whispered "Fuck me Gil!" before engulfing his mouth in passion to mask the sounds of their orgasms.

She felt his body quiver in the aftermath. Softly, she said with a smile, "Now, wasn’t that better than discussing insects the entire trip?"

He answered with a tender kiss on her lips. Neither wanted to get dressed, but they had to get back to their seats. Slowly, they washed each other off and helped each other get dressed. Luckily, she had remembered to bring her purse in with her. He gently combed her hair and kissed the back of her neck.

"I love you Sara."

She turned to him before opening the door, smiled, and caressed his face. "I love you Gil."

They made their way back to their seats, looking presentable. She laid her head on his chest and he wrapped his arm around her. It wasn’t long before she had fallen back asleep. He leaned down and kissed the top of her head and smiled. Then, he sat back and fell asleep himself. They slept the rest of the way to Chicago.

As they left the plane, she noticed a slight bounce in his step. She loved it when Gil relaxed and was having fun. He had a lot more fun since she had entered his life and they fell in love, but he seldom fully relaxed. But, they weren’t in Vegas…they were in his hometown. They were in the city he loved. And he was with the woman he loved.

They found their bags and picked up the rental car. She saw the light in his eyes and couldn’t resist the urge to lean over and kiss him. "What was that for?"

"Because I love you."

He turned to her and grinned. "Is that how you kiss someone you love?"

He pulled her to him and kissed her passionately. When he finally broke the kiss, he looked into her eyes. "Now, that’s a kiss!"

She giggled and buckled her seat belt. He put the car in gear, rested his hand on her thigh, and headed towards the hotel.

They walked into the lobby and though they lived in Vegas and saw many spectacular hotels, this one took her breath away. He smiled at her. "You like?"

"It’s beautiful Gil!"

"Yeah…just like you. I’ll be right back." He walked over to the front desk.

"Reservation for Grissom."

"Grissom, Gil and Sara?"

Grissom couldn’t hold back his smile. "Yep, that’s the one!"

He signed in, took the keycards and bounced back to Sara. ‘Is he bouncing?’ She grinned at him. ‘Yeah, he’s bouncing.’

"Ready to go to our room?"

"Yeah, I need a shower and a change of clothes."

He ushered her to the elevator and pushed the button for the 22nd floor. He opened the door for her and when she walked in, she was speechless. "Gil…"

His face broke out in the biggest smile she had ever seen him have. "I ordered them last week for delivery today."

There were flowers everywhere. Each with a card. "From Grissom."

She giggled, thinking back to the plant he had sent her last year. "They’re beautiful Grissom." She pulled him into a passionate embrace. "You are just full of surprises, aren’t you?"

He smiled to himself. ‘She doesn’t know the half of it!’ "Go on and take a shower and change clothes. I’ll get us unpacked."

When she walked back into the living area of the room, she noticed that he was on the computer. "Whatcha doin’?"

"Talking to Mom." He turned around to look at her. "You want to say Hi?"

She had never met his mother. They had never really talked about it before. She knew that his mother was deaf and that they had a very special bond.

"Okay." She leaned over his shoulder and quickly typed "Hi Mrs. Grissom. I’m Sara, a friend of Gil’s."

In a couple of seconds, a reply came back. "Sara! Gil has told me so much about you! I can’t wait to meet you!"

Sara, in a state of shock, looked at Gil—who simply shrugged his shoulders and blushed. "Be over in a little bit Mom. I love you!"

"I love you too son!"

He turned the computer off and walked into the bedroom. "You’ve talked to your Mom about me?"

He looked at her with a surprised look in his eyes. "Of course. Why wouldn’t I? Now, I know that you’re still working on your sign language, but Mom can read lips very well. So, if you get stuck, don’t worry about it."

"You’re really taking me to meet her?"

"Well…yeah. Better get dressed." He placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "Don’t worry, she’s gonna love you."

They walked up the front steps together. She was very nervous, this was Gil’s mother after all. He was very excited, one hand holding Sara’s, the other carrying a beautiful bouquet of flowers for his mother. She looked somewhat confused when he reached over and rang the doorbell.

Reading her thoughts, he turned to her and smiled. "It’s wired to a light in each room."

The door opened and Gil’s eyes lit up. She excitedly began a conversation in sign language after hugging her only son.

Grissom grinned and held up a finger. "Hold on Mom." He handed her the flowers and let go of Sara’s hand, speaking aloud as he was signing to her. "Mom, this is Sara."

She looked at Sara with tears in her eyes. ‘Gil has her eyes.’ "It’s very nice to meet you Mrs. Grissom."

His mother smiled at her, impressed that she was learning sign language. Realizing what his mother was thinking, she signed "Gil’s teaching me."

After a very nice dinner, Sara excused herself to the restroom. Grissom was caught up in watching Sara and heard his mother snap her fingers. He blushed lightly and signed, "What?"

"Have you asked her yet?"

Grissom smiled and blushed even more. "No, not yet."

"And why not?"

"I’m nervous Mom…plus, I haven’t picked out a ring yet."

This brought the "Grissom-look" from his mother.

"Mom, I want it to be perfect, that’s all."

Satisfied with that response for now, she quickly changed the subject. "How’s your hearing?"

"It’s okay. It comes and goes."

"Does she know?"

"Yes…she was the first person I told at work."

"Have you thought about the surgery?"

"I go to the specialist next week for a consultation."

"Good. You need to be able to hear your children." Her eyes filled with tears. "I still remember your voice, Gil."

She hugged him and stood up. "I’ll be right back." She quickly walked into her bedroom and came back with a small box, which she handed to her son.

"What’s this?"

"Open it and find out."

He opened the box and was stunned. He looked back up at his mother, who now had tears rolling down her cheeks. "It was your Grandmother’s. I think it would look beautiful on Sara."

He hugged his mother tightly, his own tears threatening to flow. "It’s perfect, Mom…perfect!"

Driving back to the hotel, Grissom was unusually quiet.

"Gil, you okay?"

"Yeah, I was just thinking." He turned to look at her. "Mom really likes you Sara."

"Good, I like her a lot too. She’s very sweet…and very special." She smiled at him. "You have her eyes." Noticing that he had turned on a different street, she looked at him…puzzled. "Where are we going?"

"Another surprise." He parked the car and they walked. The stars were shining brightly as they walked down the path towards the river. "Don’t notice them as much in Vegas do you?"

She sighed and wrapped her arm around him. "No…and they are so beautiful."

Suddenly Grissom stopped walking and kneeled down. "Shoe come untied?"

He looked up at her. "No."

"Then what are you doing? Find a bug?"

He chuckled at her joke. "No." He took a deep breath. "Sara?"

She was looking around, amazed at the sight of the stars reflecting in the water. "Hmmm?"

"I love you. More than I ever thought I could."

She looked down at him and was once again speechless.

"I never thought that the day would come when I could honestly say that I loved someone. And with you, it’s an everyday experience. Each day I fall more in love with you. I didn’t even think that was possible."

She could tell he was choking back tears as his voice cracked. He reached into his jacket pocket and a tear fell down his cheek. "Sara Sidle…will you spend the rest of your life with me?" He watched as the tears began to fill her eyes. "Sara, will you marry me?"

She felt her knees buckle and he reached up and took her hand. "I definitely wasn’t expecting that Grissom."

He pulled her down to him and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I mean it with all of my heart Sara. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Please marry me."

She wrapped her arms around his neck, sobbing. He held her tightly, wondering if he had said something wrong. "Sara?"

She lifted her face up to his and kissed his lips. "Yes, Gil…yes!"

"Yes?" He was dumbfounded. He was completely in love with this woman and she is accepting his marriage proposal?

"Yes, I’ll marry you Gil! I love you so much!"

He opened the box and heard her gasp. "It’s beautiful Gil!"

"It was my grandmother’s. And now…it’s yours." He gently slid the ring on her finger.

Looking into her eyes, he had never felt so much passion for anything. Not even entomology. She was his life. Running his fingers through her hair, he pulled her into a passionate kiss. She gently began pushing him back until he was lying on the ground. "Sara…"

Gently nipping at his bottom lip with her teeth, she whispered, "Sshhh…don’t say it Grissom."

"Don’t say what?" He was lovingly teasing her lips with his tongue.

"That we can’t do it here." She was unbuttoning his shirt.

"That thought never crossed my mind." He effortlessly unhooked her bra.

A thought entered her mind and she smiled at him. "What?"

"I was just thinking that in Vegas, it would be impossible for us to make love under the stars on a warm night."

"Nothing is impossible, Sara. Haven’t you learned that?"

She looked at him questioningly. "I was told more than once that I was impossible. And look what you’ve done to me."

Her tongue was running over his body, slowly finding it’s way to his mouth. She tenderly kissed his lips and gazed into his eyes. "Mr. Grissom?"

He breathlessly murmured back "Hmm?"

"Your fiancée wants you to make love to her."

"She does?"

"Mm-hmmm."

"Well…I can’t disappoint the love of my life, now can I?"

"No…I need you right now Grissom."

"I need you just as much Sidle. I love you."

He took her breath away as he entered her. The starlight reflecting from the diamond into his eyes. She knew they would be together for the rest of their lives. She was very thankful that she had agreed to come home with him for a few days. Now, she will go home to him everyday. He is her home.
